I'm in dire need of a new blood checker and will be asking the nurse for one on wednesday when I go and see her with a whole host of other questions. My current blood checker is one of the old Accu Chek Advantages and its playing up quite a bit. Can anyone reccomend me a good checker? I quite like the look of the One Touch ones that can come in pink!
 
Have you registered your meter on their website? They normally send out free 'upgrades' to registered users - I got sent an Accu Chek Nano recently. I've heard good things said about the One Touch, plus there is a meter that does blood ketone tests too, can't remember which one but I'm sure someone will mention it!🙂

p.s. if you ring their helpline, and tell them your meter is faulty, I'm sure they'd send you one, probably by tomorrow!
 
yeah i got the pink one, if you ring up they will send you one free, with 50 test strips if you agree to fill in a survey about it.
 
I've got a one touch ultra easy in pink! Pretty basic but I find I don't use any of the features on my other ones so it works for me.its really small as well which I really like.

Nathan has a one touch ultra easy...he also has a nano..but prefers the one touch....

I've recently started using the Bayer Breeze 2. More for ease of use than anything else.

The test strips are on a disk, so no handling them. Accu-chek use a drum based system.

It isn't motorised like the Accu-check and I did find the lancet on the Accu-chek easier to use.

However, its blood collection area of the test strip is very neat, its curved in contour with your finger as it draws the blood in, rather needing to be 'submerged' in blood - I am sure there is elegant marketing speak for that!

It needs less blood, so you don't need to wring your fingers out to get just enough, but sometimes not enough by a micron..

I don't think there is a PC interface, perhaps there is, but it seems to work, not too small (good for me, I can grip it) but their lancet lets it down.
 
I've got the OneTouch UltraMini. Mine is black but it comes in loads of colours including pink.

I really like it, it's nice and small, easy to use, comes with a neat pouch to hold everything, only needs a tiny amount of blood and results in 5 seconds.

I got mine free from my Diabetic Clinic.

My brother uses the Optimum Exceed (the ketone one) and he really likes it.

i use the optium exceed monitor and i find it superb. i wouldnt use any other meter now!!!!
 
One Touch all the way. They have been found to be one of the most accurate when low which is a huge plus. I have used all of the One Touch's for 9 years since my daughter was born and they are all superb. The download is fantastic and very user friendly.
 
i had a one touch for about 3 weeks and hated it. i think it is down again to personal preferance as to what works for you. i also have never had a problem with my exceed not getting an accurate reading when i am low. and i have done it when in hospital and then used the hospital monitor which is probably the most accurate one you can get and it was identical. so i wouldnt always believe what you get told about the meter.do some homework but go for what you feel is right for you 🙂

Definitely a matter of personal preference! I have used both one touch and accu check meters and much prefer the one touch although I couldn't really explain why...

I mentioned it a while ago but my meter comes with software to download readings and analyse them. It provides hours (ok... minutes... 😛) of amusement looking at blood sugars in various graph and table forms...

I didn't know they came in different colours though! That's very exciting 🙂
 
the optium als has software to download all the readings and it to has it displayable in bars graphs and tables etc lol it is cool to see it tho (makes me wish for rogue levels sometimes) hehehehe
 
I have One Touch Ultra Easy. I was given a cople of others to use, but prefer the ultra easy so others passed on to people who will use them. I have three, one at home, one at work and one in my bag.🙂
 
I've got the Accu-Chek Aviva. Well two of them now since Boots sell things half price. 😎
