I have been taking a 1000mg Glucophage tablet for some time now, and the only side effect I have noticed that it suppresses my appetite. Not that I mind as I have lost a few pounds in weight, but I don't seem to enjoy my food like I used to and get full very quickly. Does anyone else experience this?

Hi. Metformin SR does initially reduce your appetite and for some like me results in a metallic taste. These effects tend to fade after a few weeks/months. My metallic taste lasted 6 months.

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't get the metallic taste but I just feel so full after meals. I use to enjoy buffets but canjust about manage a couple of sandwiches these days. I've lost nearly 2 stone in about two years.

I have never had the appetite suppression and big weight loss it supposed to give.

Sorry to hear you are finding your enjoyment of food has been affected @Edgar.

What are your BG results like? Do you think you might reduce or change your meds to see if you can get your enjoyment back?I wonder whether the weight loss might have I proved your body’s ability to manage BG with reduced or different meds?

I don't self test anymore as my GP advised against but my last HBA1C was 54 and he wasn't too bothered about that. Yesterday, I had breakfast and lunch and didn't eat anything after 6pm and felt quite sick overnight. Took my temperature this morning and it was 33 degrees which is a bit low. Not sure what the nest step is.

I just did a self test (first time for ages) and got a reading of 5.5 fasting. That's quite good, isn't it?

5.5 is a perfect fasting level @Edgar 🙂
