Hello
I have started gliclazine about 10 days ago and it's coincided with a big drop in mental health, fatigue, headache, woolly head. I am wondering if it could be the medication. Am desperately trying to feel better quickly as I have my doctoral viva next week and need my brain to cooperate.
Any thoughts? Help?
Thanks Jane

Sorry, don't know anything about gliclazine but please phone your gp for advice as this next week is so important for you. All the best.

One thing immediately springs to mind. What are you blood glucose levels like after you've taken it? Do you have a meter? Fatigue, headache and woolly head might indicate low blood sugars.

Another thing, if you drive, then it is also something you really must be aware of before getting behind the wheel when on medications like gliclazide.

Thanks everyone. Blood sugar has been between 6 and 9. This is down considerably from before. Gliclazide, not gliclazine!! Sorry, very tired and woolly headed

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time.

Low mood, headaches, fatigue and fuzz aren‘t commonly mentioned by members taking Glic as far as I recall, but many people do mention those feelings associated with high, low and erratic BG levels. With low BG they are often accompanied by hunger, tingling, anxiety and heart palpitations. Plus occasionally, visual disturbance.

It may be that if your levels were running substantially higher these might be ‘false low BG’ warning signs as you approach the healthy range?

Gliclazide seems to rarely have side effects other than low blood sugar if the dose is too high. There will always be exceptions of course.

Hello, Thanks for the replies. Have stopped taking it and am starting to feel better. Gp is switching me onto something else. However, I'm not going to start it until after my viva as I need a clear head.

Hi @Namaste. Glad you're starting to feel more with it. Maybe reduce your carb intake for the next week.

Wishing you all the best in your viva and fingers crossed for no corrections!
