last couple of weeks i have been ravenously hungry, on gliclazide 80 mg, and not usually all that hungry, not eating any more or less, last diabetic MOT doctor mumbled summat about not leaving patients on it long term, and when i pressed as to why he didnt answer and carried on wth the examination, does anyone know why not long term and is it connected to my sudden hunger? my regular meal times have been a bit more irratic of late, so is that why? any help as always gratefully received 🙂

I THINK Glic is one of the things that stimulates the pancreas to make more insulin. Some think that's not a good idea long term because it might mean that encourages your Beta cells to pop their clogs sooner rather than later. (= Insulin jabs)

Are you also on Metformin, if not is there a reason?

Gliclizide encourages the pancreas to produce mre insulin to deal with the food when we eat.

The weather is also quite changeable. Many people feel hungrier when it is colder as it helps them keep warm.

Just a a suggestion if you are happy about the ammount you eat, have plenty of warm sugar free drinks, they will help keep you warm and help reduce your appetitie a bit.

I wasn't happy about staying on gliclazide long term precisely because it was stimulating the pancreas which was already stressed (possibly) due to my increased insulin resistance.

Re: hunger. Gliclazide=more insulin=lower bg=hunger? (just a thought). Do you know what your levels are when you get your hunger pangs?

Andy 🙂

i was on metformin 1st but had bad reactions toilet wise, as for testing I go through spells of testing all the time to not testing at all, head in the sand spells i call them, stupid i know, and i am trying to be better, what other meds are available that may not result in me perhaps being on insulin, if any? again thanks for the responses and help so far, 🙂

My big bro (who's also a type 2) is on something called sitagliptin (or lizard spit, as he calls it!).

Andy 🙂
