Good luck with the appointment!

Still confused by the 6 months thing - seems too little time to give pumping a proper go (especially if it takes more than a month or two to get it set up right).

What were your criteria for getting pump funding? Your A1c looks just below the 8.5% threshold that I've seen mentioned, which leaves the quality of life/hypoglycaemia/fear of hypoglycaemia...

Therefore, as far as I'm aware as ong as you think it is helping and say so, then it IS and the criteria are still being met.

I don't understand this 6 months thing either.

Good luck with everything and I hope all works out well. :D

Nor I.

Grandma, try asking the others if they've been told the same?

Its the dawn phenomenon, as i mentioned way back.........

the opportunity for the pump is there, so grab it...........my clinic would want a split background first before considering the pump.......

Good luck carol, I am sure it will give you the improvements you have been waiting for.......🙂

Personally I find this totally outrageous, how can they even threaten that?! If there is no improvement - they need to support you even further. If injections aren't working for you, which clearly they aren't else you wouldn't be going on a pump, then how on earth do they think that going back on injections would improve the situation. You can't scare people into getting good results if they are trying their hardest!

Must admit I have heard of others being told the same thing as well.
As you say it's outrageous as all it does it put the person involved under a lot more needless preasure.

Now if there are problems with gaining control on the pump and the patient is doing all they can, then I would be asking questions of the health care providers.

PS good luck with the pump start. 🙂

Mind you, Carol was told that if she doesn't do the necessary (testing more) they'll take it off her too.

Well I can see that working for a teenager LOL, but you know as well as we do, if her mother was the diabetic here, she'd have had summat to say to them about that!

😱...................has she being doing so?

We had a blip a few weeks back where she didn't test at lunchtime for a week before I found out. Laptop and mobile confiscated for a week.
Other than that she's being a star! We still have arguments when I want her to test extra, but most of the time she'll accept my reasoning and does it :D

Does she ever test of her own accord to find out things for herself.........?

I dont think there is any real risk of it being taken away, do you?

No, she doesn't!!!!!!! (Well, if feeling hypo, then yes) But she informed me yesterday that she reduced her daytime basals a week ago. No wonder her readings were better 🙂 Back to school today, now we'll see if the changes we made just before the hols started are working for school days.

There's absolutely no risk whatsoever of them taking it away from her atm. The consultant saw that a week of lunch readings were missing, but didn't even comment on it.

Oh mark my word pumps are taken away if the pump is not being used correctly or it's being abused.
What it boils down to is that a consultant has prescribed that pump so his name is on it so to speak. So if it's not being used properly then there is a danger of harm to the patient, s/he will have to act or in this litigation society.... guess what?

Didn't we have a member here who had hers taken away?

It is possible for pumps to be stopped..But it's rare that this happens though...

In case like Grandma's where they've been given a period of time the clinic feels they should see an improvement, then it's very unlikely that the pump is stopped at the end of the period..

A couple of cases where I've seen the pump removed, it's been no surprise the person really isn't doing anything to help themselves concerning learning how to use the pump, or follow any advise given in an attempt to improve control.. And have come to a stage that they are really a danger to themselves... So for safety returning back to injections is the better of bad situation.

But grandma don't worry about it, as between, yourself, your team and us pumper's here to help you bound to be keeping your pump

Where these cases recent.............?

I would think today that individuals would be assessed before they were accepted to whether they could make it work.......?I can see this level of assessment not begin consistent throughout the country though.....🙂
