It is very difficult for you with not having had any carb counting education. Theres an online course aimed at T1s here https://www.bertieonline.org.uk/admLogin.asp which is similar to a course I did at the hospital, I did this online one a few years later as a refresher, you might find it useful.

Another thing that comes to mind is there is a meter called Accuchek expert which you can set up with different carb ratios for different meals and it does all the maths for you. Might be worth asking for one when you see a dsn- I had one before I got my pump and it did make my results better.

Also to add I found my digestion slowed down in pregnancy so with my pump I used dual waves for some meals. For you this would equate to taking half the injection up front then the rest eg 30 mins after eating, to prevent a hypo mid meal or shortly afterwards. I think the hormones and also the size of the baby slow down the food absorption.

Basically change is the only constant in pregnancy, but you can totally do this!

Alas the Expert has been discontinued, but I think the Insulinx is still available, plus there are smartphone apps like mySugr which have bolus calculators built in.

I think they now use the meter/handset that comes with the Insight pumps Mike. Just without the Bluetooth, in other words virtually the same as the Combo/Expert meter.

Ah! That would make sense. I was disappointed when I heard the Expert was discontinued as I found mine VERY helpful in my last years of MDI.

200g is Half a POUND of spuds! Surely to God nobody sane who's diabetic tries to eat that much of em?
Merrymunky said she ate quite a few new potatoes, I didn't know how many that meant as I'd guess a few would vary from person to person ... but I think I'm sane and I regularly eat 200-300g of potatoes, boiled or baked, inject about 1 unit insulin for every 18g of carbs (my evening ratio - if I ate them at lunchtime it would be something between 1:21-1:28, depending on the weather), and never, ever spike as a result - I'm more likely to be fighting off hypos 2 hours after eating potato than fighting off hypers! But I manifestly don't have a problem with potatoes.

A hen's egg sized spud weighs approx. 60g and is approx. 10g carb. No idea what it weighs cooked, but yeah you are right, raw it's more than half a pound. I would only ever be able to eat a max of 4 with a meal. Neither you nor I are T2 though Juliet so we could eat half a ton if we wanted - except we don't want LOL

I'm type2 on abasaglar and take novorapid 7 unit for carbs, if your having hypos I suggest that you lower your novorapid, when I first went on insulin. I was told not to carb count(that will drive you crazy)from my diabetes nurse. I was started on 5 novo when it wasnt getting it was increased to 7 been on that since. My blood glucose was 33-44 felt fine at those readings now 5.5-8. Like some people have said everyone is different last weekend my lowest was 3.7 think my pancreas had dumped some insulin into the mix took me by surprise but felt fine. Lucozade hasn't the same amount of sugar in it as or used to. Jelly babies are what I've been advised to have 2 or 3 & retest. Good luck.

I’ve commented on your other posts, don’t worry about the hypos hurting baby, baby won’t even notice, that’s what they told me, baby is causing it more than likely, feeding herself up into a strong little lady!

Can’t add to what others have said other to say it’s normal for pregnancy to do all that crazy stuff with D just take it day by day and you will get there.

And do not panic it will not help!

Take care x
