Hi,

Any advise on how to keep morning sugars down. I am 5 weeks pregnant, I've had two previous pregnancies with gestation diabetes. I managed to get through with diet and exercise for most of the duration and taking insulin in the last few weeks of each pregnancy.

I'm doing OK during the day by restricting carbs but my morning sugars are starting out high before I eat in the morning. Should I be eating something small before going to bed and if so what type of food? Thanks.

Hi AnnieG, welcome to the forum 🙂 What sort of levels are you going to bed on and waking up on? Do you test as soon as you wake, or are you up and about a bit before testing/eating? Many people find that if they test when they wake, but then don't eat for a while, their levels will rise as the liver releases glucose to give you a 'boost' as you start the day (this is known as 'dawn phenomenon'). Eating something soon after rising will 'switch off' this mechanism. Also, some people find that a small protein snack before bed helps improve waking levels.
