Type 2
Hi, I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy and was on insulin as had initially high numbers that took a while to get under control. My fasting glucose number was 24 2 hours after the drink - so they wondered if I was type 2 before pregnancy.
Baby is now 6 weeks old and I have been doing a few random blood sugar tests on my machine and been getting readings of 21, 19, 23, 26. Should I be worried? I know they said wait until your HBA1C test when baby is 3 months old but I am worried these levels are really bad.
I have had a headache, I’m fatigued and sort of blurred vision sometimes but don’t know if this is down to having a newborn.

feeling very upset and not sure what to do so any advice would be greatly received!

You need medical input @Spencer94 Those numbers are too high.

I’m not sure about your circumstances - family history, weight, etc etc, but don’t let them assume you’re Type 2. I know at least two women diagnosed with Type 1 during pregnancy, having been thought to have Gestational Diabetes. So don’t be afraid to ask them if you could be Type 1 not Type 2. If you are, getting the right treatment is important.

Speak to 111. Write down your blood glucose results so you have them on hand, and also write down your symptoms eg blurry eyes, tiredness, etc.

Please let us know how you get on. XX

Hi Spencer94, welcome to the forum.

I agree with Inka, those numbers are quite high regardless of the situation. Please speak with a medical professional as soon as you can, 111 would be a great start.

It's true that your numbers may be out of wack for a while after you've given birth but they need to look at what you can do to get your numbers down to a safe level in the mean time.

We have a really helpful parents section here so do let us know how you get on and if we can help in any way.

Sorry to hear about your high BGs @Spencer94

Hope you can get some speedy answers! it doesn’t seem wise to wait another 6-8 weeks under the circumstances.

How are you levels now? Did you seek medical help?
