Hi

I have well controlled type 2 diabetes. I take only metformin and my HBA1c is under 48. I have controlled hypertension. I have read all your info re what being a diabetic does if the body contracts a virus. I am 51 and am in general good health. I never get ill and generally recover quickly from any colds/viruses etc. I am a keyworker who is unable to work from home however can reduce my face to face contacts to just a few. I am wondering what advice you would give me. There is very little around and believe me I have looked at everything. So your opinion would be great. I wish to work as it totally goes against the grain for me not to especially in this time of crisis

Hi Lynne. I consider my circumstances similar to yours, except that I am 73. I am, like many others, in a ‘vulnerable’ group and am concerned for my well being during this crisis. I regularly discuss this with my daughter, who is a GP, and, while there is a degree of scepticism towards some ‘expert medical advice’ on this website, I feel that their views on diabetes shouldn’t be dismissed. In terms of my personal diabetic circumstances, my daughter is of the opinion that it is well under control and that my diabetes, as a contributing factor to the severity of the Coronavirus, may not be quite as serious as it could be with somebody with poor diabetic control. Remember that nobody here can offer definitive medical advice but you’ve got to bow to superior knowledge and understanding. Having said all that, can I express my admiration for your attitude to your own personal circumstances in this crisis. Take care.

All we can suggest is that you follow the official guidance for people with diabetes which is to be extra careful about ‘social distancing’.

We don’t need to fully isolate, and while we should restrict face to face contact as much as is practical, we are not advised to stop working (though employers are instructed to make adjustments to support us)

Hi all it is not very clear and I am new to this forum. So I hope to get this is the right area. I'm 40 and suffer from type 1 diabetes. I self isolated about 2 weeks ago for 7 days with a precautionary cough which thankfully turned into nothing.

I work for M&S a retailer and currently have no option but to deal with customers and staff members who are in contact with customers. It concerns me that the confusion for such a high risk disease of catching and having potential complications if you do are not being looked into more seriously. I really dont know how to deal with this going forward.

Currently my readings have been going off the chart with H1 regular readings, very heavy arms and legs occasionally although better the past few days. Worse in the morning tbh till I get moving.

Please please diabetes uk so many sources are saying different things. Please clarify what we should be doing.
 
I am a 69 yr old type 1 diabetic; I am also taking ramipril and atorvastin and have diabetic neuropathy. My diabetes Hab1c levels are not always good, last time it was lower than what they wanted and a couple of months earlier it was on 9.8, so not really good control, so how would Covid19 affect me
 
Thanks everyone for your views and comments. I will keep checking for any updates. I have decided that I will continue to work and socially distance myself as much as possible
