Dear Forumers,

So I've had a pain in my side for a wee while and was worried it was my liver. Just been to see Doc who thinks its more likely to be gallbladder. I've done a bit of googling and it would seem that quick weight loss can affect the gallbladder which was one of my symptoms and I've read various reports on eating or not eating fat. Since I'm on the LCHF diet which has really controlled my BG I know I'm not going to give up fat. I also read that its not the fat you eat, necessarily, but the processing of glucose into fat which impacts the GB. I'm just wondering who out there might have had similar experiences or more certain knowledge?

I had my Gall bladder removed many years before Diabetes, I never had typical Gall Bladder symptoms.

It’s some years since I had my gallbladder removed after episodes of acute pancreatitis. I had a small stone stuck in the bile duct. I found very high fat foods aggravated the condition really badly and I would end up in terrible pain. However that pre-dated my diabetes days. Good luck!

I had a couple of very painful episodes after I returned to normal eating (with fat) after being on a low fat diet. I suspect it was small stones departing - thankfully they did not get stuck and once gone I had no further trouble. The bile is requires to emulsify fat for digestion, when left unused it forms stones, so if you can avoid low fat then all might be well. I did read that having a lie down after eating could help - I can't recall now which side it was you were supposed to lie on, but it tilted the gall bladder so that the opening was on top and bile could get out more easily without stones being pushed into the duct. I never had the opportunity to try it out, but it seems sensible - at least it might help

I had my gall bladder almost 20 years ago. I never knew I had gall stones until it was too late and ended up with pancreatitis. The pain is like something I’ve never experienced before, even childbirth. I had three episodes until I was whisked away in an ambulance, all were after food, not particularly fatty but spicy played a part and pork remained off my menu for many years afterwards! The position @Drummer is referring to, I think, which helped me, was to lie on my stomach. Bending forward can help too. TBF it’s mostly things like pastry which will aggravate gall stones. As long as you’re not drinking oil straight from the bottle a modified LCHF diet should still be fine but be careful. Hope you get sorted.

Good grief, I hope I never get gallstones, I can't lie on my stomach, I'd be a seesaw. :(

I never got pain with mine, I would feel as though I had overeaten despite not having do so, and would take hours to subside. The episodes got longer over a period of time.
