It completely slipped my mind that I was supposed to go for my flu jab this morning :( I'll have to see if I can go next week instead. Grrr!!! I hate missing appointments, although I think I probably forgot this because it's such a quick procedure - took less than 2 minutes last year!

what, a Saturday morning appointment?? plus a considerate thoughtful consultant and vitamin tablets, I can't believe you live less than 20 miles away from me!! Talk about postcode lottery - hope you get the next appointment OK though - we all sometimes forget things....

I forgot we had a walk in flu clinic a week or two ago. I was reminded about it too.

But got to see the nurse next week, so will ask then.

I had my flu clinic this morning. Got there and there was about 30 people outside in a queue waiting 😱 But luckily didn't have to wait long. They had loads of rooms open with a nurse in each and it was just one big conveyor belt system. In, stab, out, next...

I did feel sorry for the more elderly people. One old lady came out saying:
Old Lady said:
That was horrible, like a bloody cattle market in there and they kick you out as fast as they can.

Bless her.

It's a big money spinner for the surgery. Last time I went there was a big queue but a very quick turnaround. As they get a payment for every jab administered, something like ?7 I think, they probably make around ?4-5k an hour!

Had mine yesterday - the nurse did it so no need for a clinic. Last time I felt nothing, but quite stiff and sore arm today - ouch! Still worth having though🙂

When I went last week, I arrived early for appointment, but patients were called in order of appointment time, so I was seen early. The nurse commented favourably on my short sleeves. I had heard the receptionists ask everyone to remove their coats and roll up sleeves, but no-one did. A very simple action, which saves time for everyone.

Question - is everyone with diabetes offered a flu jab? My DN didn't mention this at all during my first appointment...mind you, I've never had flu in my life (hope I haven't jinxed myself) 🙄

Amanda x 🙂

Yes, you should definitely be offered it as we are in an 'at risk' group. Because we have difficulty controlling our blood sugar levels things can be much worse if we have to fight off something as serious as flu. I would ask at your surgery as they may have forgotten to send you a letter and the jabs are taking place around now, so don't wait. I had flu once I think (real, not man!), but that was about 30 years ago. Both my father and stepmum came down with it just days after I had spent a holiday with them, so I think I had a lucky escape!

I've never had flu either Amanda, and refused my jab for a couple of years because of that, til my Practice Nurse talked me into it. But, yes, as we have diabetes it puts us in one of the 'at risk' groups so we are entitled to a jab. Maybe an idea to call your surgery and see what their routine is. I usually get a phone call from the surgery to remind me mine's due, and I make an appointment there and then.

Actually I was a bit annoyed this year as there was a letter in with my script when I collected it 3 weeks ago, and I didn't see it til I got home. I'd made an appointment for my HbA1c and follow up appointment to have a chat with the Practice Nurse while I was there and thought I was done. Still haven't called to make an appointment for my jab. I'll do it Monday now this thread has reminded me. XXXXX

Nasty thing the flu and last time I had it was 5 years ago and I swore I was on my last legs. My surgery has several flu clinics which start alphabetically using surnames and age groups, I was supposed to go next weekend but will wait another week as I'm due to go in for my hba1c check.

We had our flu jabs this morning - our surgery's open for the next three Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on top of usualk appointments and, if you can't do this drop in then they say to make an appointment to see the nurse when it suits. I asked our nurse how many she expected to do this morning and she said about a 1,000........gosh ! Arm OK though.

I have to have my 2nd HbA1c blood test in November and see DN in December; is it worth me asking to have flu jab prior to blood test (on the same day); looking at either 2nd/3rd week in November or is this too late? Amanda x 🙂

I would contact the surgery on Monday to find out what the arrangements are. 🙂

Had mine this morn as well, walked straight in, jab and out again.... less than a minute
