Funny Toe nails

I have funny big toe nails on both my feet,the nurse at the hospital and the dr's both looked and suggested i had some sort of fungal infection.
I sent off some clippings and these came back clear...Does anyone have any ideas?😱

I visited a podiatrist recently and she explained to me that most times samples of suspected fungal infection are sent off, they come back negative.

Mine did, but it is difficult to actually get a sample of the live spore, apparently.

I am seeing a podiatrist at the moment for exactly the same. The podiatrist has told me to buy a metal file (so i can sterilise it) and to use it only on infected nails. You need to break the gloss finish on the nail to allow the fungus to come out with the help of cream you buy from the chemist. I too was told the clippings will probably come back negative but the podiatrist is sure it is fungal.

File from the cuticle of your toe down to the end of your toe. The answer is little but often apparently. Also keep your nails cut often (but not too short). Apply cream to foot to keep moistened (i am using ccs from boots) and then apply fungal cream to nails.

I am one week in and am noticing a difference already. Don't be alarmed if the nails go loose and drop off - they will grow back.

After saying this - I would still suggest seeing a podiatrist as this is how mine treats me - but as you are diabetic any foot problem should be checked out with a podiatrist - it only took 1 week for my NHS appointment to come through. Good luck.🙂

funny toe nails !!

I have had funny toe nails on a three occasions over the last 10 years, (dry - crumbly - miss coloured)
I have been given pills (not sure what they were) which the Dr told me would affect my liver, I was only allowed to take them for 3 months. then got a load of blood tests!

I was given canesten cream, which I was to apply to my toes, after using the cream for a couple of weeks my wife cut my toe nails as short as was possible, then used a nail file and scraped under the toe nails removing all of the loose crumbly material and packing the nails with canesten cream, this was repeated a couple of times a week for about a month ? by the end of that time the nails were recovering --- it took about 3 months to clear up in full,

Thankyou everyone for all your advice.my nails are uneven at the sides,slightly raised and were a dirty yellow colour.Will ask again at hospital this week
