Hi guys, I've been stalking all the fungal toe nail threads over the last few months in a bid to help with an infection I have on the nail of one of my big toes. I've tried a couple of the treatments that I've read about on here, but neither have worked for me.

The nurse at my recent foot clinic appointment said they hear a lot of good things about tea-tree oil, but that they can't recommend it on an official level. So I thought i'd give it a whirl and i'm getting pretty good results. The nail looks way better already after about two weeks of daily drops on it. It's a definite thumbs up from me.

It’s a good idea to dilute your tea tree with a little other oil (any you have in the house is fine, olive, coconut, sunflower). Lots of people say you can use it neat but it’s a very strong oil and actually a waste to use it neat. Don’t try to dilute it in water as it doesn’t disperse.

Not used for fungal infections but don't get , though use it for alot of first aid type things. I use neat. Have done for years.

Wonderful stuff - I found an Australian Tea Tree oil containing anti fungal cream you could even use on thrush, many many moons ago. Absolutely not neat - actually burns anywhere not covered in thick skin!

Hi. I tried all the branded stuff and none of them worked or made it worse. I then read about Tea Tree oil and have been using it neat for months. It does help a lot and even my DN suggested using it. I have one bottle saying use it neat on the skin if you want and another make saying never use it neat on the skin! No one seems to have researched it formally but anecdotally it does seem to be beneficial.

It’s certainly worth a try. Anti fungal tablets can kill off all the beneficial fungi that live on your skin, where they live on dead skin cells and keep bacteria under control. They can also kill the yeasts and other fungi that live happily in your gut, some of them churning out essential vitamins and minerals.

Tea Tree oil does what it says on the tin. Of course it has antifungal properties, fungi can kill trees. It’s quite likely antibiotic as well, though trees don’t suffer much from bacterial invasion.

For those reasons, DaveB, nobody needs to do any new research. Tea Trees have been perfecting it for millennia.
