Full Fat or low fat

so confusing, to have full fat or low fat or fat free, so currently i have full fat milk,(delivered from milkman) and i like full fat greek style yogurt, Yeo valley. also skyr, creamy and the natural one plus cherry and coconut, and full fat cottage cheese, Longley farm( even though its low fat, its not fat free,) so these are what i buy, should i be buying the fat free or low fat versions? my thinking is itf something is taken out they add other things, so fat free yogurt have more sugar,ie muller, (but i buy natural all the time bar skyr)

I buy full fat yogurt but I also follow a low carb diet so, in my head at least, I figure those two things equal each other out. I have soya milk for tea but do buy cream for coffee.

Just an anecdote but reasonably relevant. My mum had a terrible reaction to antibiotics and had shocking diarrhea for several weeks, even after stopping the tablets. Every single doctor that spoke to her about getting her bowel back to normal advised against eating anything labelled 'low fat'. My gastroenterology team are also always happy with my full fat choices.

If you are following low carb then full fat rather than low fat is what is suggested as long as you do not need to restrict fat for other medical reasons. I do use lower fat because that is what I prefer for some things so skimmed milk in drinks but full fat Greek yoghurt but high protein flavoured yoghurt or Kvarg deserts which are low carb and low fat.

It depends what your goals are. Low fat products don’t usually have sugar added as you mentioned. If your goals are to lose weight then full fat is more calories than low fat. If you’re ok with your weight with the full fat and don’t have any other health concerns than need low fat eg gallstones, or heart / cholesterol concerns then you could stick with full fat.
