Hi Margie that is really helpful thanks very much

What I don't understand is, if the ESH test was abnormal but no action is being taken, then why have the test done in the first place if the result is of no consequence? What was the point?

Hi Alan exactly why do the test in the first place and then tell me it has to be repeated but when it is still high no action. I wasn't even told why they wanted to repeat it

If you have the choice Amanda, you might consider telling the surgery you do not want to be seen by Doctor whoever again. Then if you don't get anywhere at the clinic on Monday it will be time to demand a second opinion. This is your health and you're obviously suffering terribly, that needs to be taken seriously.

I do think you need to get through to them just how low and tired and at rock bottom you really are. Tell them at the start you don't feel you are being heard and don't want to leave until you have been heard - even if it means booking a longer appointment later today, You need to agree a plan going forward together to get to the bottom of it - the problem is probably the GP is not sure what direction to send you next re the fatigue. I had the same issue before accidentally I was diagnosed as diabetic - sometimes its so obvious once you know!🙂

You shouldn't need to fight to be heard when you are feeling at your lowest and don't have the energy in the first place. I've had the same with my docs.

One thing I have often found works for me in many situations where I don't feel I'm being taken seriously is to make it personal to them. I ask, 'How would you feel if you were in this situation and no one was listening to you?' I've used it with doctors, teachers, the local Council, Social Services etc . It often changes peoples minds. It's no excuse but some people aren't able to see the consequences of their actions/inactions until you put them in your situation. Docs often just see a list of symptoms and don't realise what it means to have those symptoms 24/7 with no relief in sight. XXXXX

Hear flipping hear, Faith !

How long did it take me, when complaining about mega stega heavy periods, and being told 'some women do ...' (I'd known that since I was 11 years old, ta) to - accidentally! - come across one that said 'You can only go on for so long getting repeatedly ruined bedding, carpets and clothes, can't you?' What a RELIEF !! (yup - it was a woman)

Amanda, what happened, lovely?

As Trophywench shows, it's important not just to state a sympton eg heavy periods, but also to state how it affects you eg blood leaking on bed, carpets, clothes etc. Admittedly even if they do listen, they can't always solve the problem.

I'm in a similar situation, where saying that I can't move my knee since falling down a cattle grid isn't considired very urgent by the NHS triage system, although GP has suggested what I say to surgeon (when I eventually see them) what have already said to orthopaedic specialist GP about limits on activities such as walking (have to do work patrols by tractor instead of on foot), running, kayaking, orienteering (work and leisure) etc.
