Just been looking at a list of 'super foods' and it notes that kiwi fruit has as much vitamin c as an orange-does anyone on here eat kiwi or does it spike?

I know that berries are also low gi; but are there any other good fruit options... Amanda x 🙂

Not scrupulously tested, but I seem to find Kiwi ok.

Apples are fairly gentle for me too, though as ever YDMV 🙂

I am going to try kiwi because I can't do oranges - what does YDMV stand for...? Amanda 🙂

Your Diabetes May Vary 😉

I find oranges spikier too. And bananas (though some are fine with those)

I make up a fruit cocktail every few days, with all sorts of fruit, except bananas, and I seem to be fine if I have the fruit after meals.

I did test them on their own one day, and very little spike. I do top them with natural low fat yogurt. Very nice.🙂

I wonder if mixing all the fruit helps.???????

It's difficult to say which fruit causes spikes as we all react differently to certain foods, I don't really exclude any fruit or vegetable but cover it by injecting insulin, as a type 2 it's a different story and the only way of knowing is by testing your bg after eating.

Hi Amanda,

A Type 2 on diet and exercise has to test whatever they decide to eat, there is nothing else that will cover it as there is no medication and no insulin prescribed.

Your meter is your best friend and so you have to test. Eating a kiwi on it's own may or may not cause a spike for you but the way to lessen the impact is to incorporate it in a meal using all food groups. It is like eating a slice of bread on it's own and wondering why it spikes when you ate a chicken and salad sandwich the day before and that was O.K.
Hope that makes sense.

I never really thought about having fruit after a meal 🙄; I tend to have sugar-free jelly. I tend to have fruit as a snack; however, oranges seem to spike quite high; I'm ok with cherries and I've read that apples are quite acidic and not so good for your teeth but I think that depends how you eat them. I'll try kiwi after a dinner and then test; see how it goes. Thank you, I'm still learning...very slowly Amanda x 🙂

I love Kiwi fruit dosent seem to spike me.
I cut it up and put it in Natural Yogurt and add a few nuts.
It workes better for me than the yougerts that you bye with fruit in.

I'm not very good with natural yoghurt; although I've only ever tried it with granola. I did buy a pro-biotic 'diet' yoghurt which was also a no no. I might try the kiwi with yoghurt and nuts. Great suggestion, thank you. Amanda x 🙂
