could l be eating wrong fruits which can send my BG high.
Banana
Pears
Oranges
Mangoes
Tangerines
Apples
 
The short answer is yes, @Vainah - those are all likely to send your blood sugar up, though which ones will effect you most is an individual thing, so you'd need to test a couple of hours after eating one to see how it effects you.

Fruit which are low carb and better for people with diabetes tend to be things like strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, and that sort of thing.
 
Only a BG meter will tell you. Everyone is different, and there are no guarantees. There are averages and likelihoods (eg grapes, bananas and mangoes likely to be more spiky than apples... berries likely to be the gentlest of all) but the only way for you to KNOW is to use a BG meter to check for yourself.
 
WIth me, all would spike me apart from Apples, curiously. Everybody is different.
 
Apples again for me - I've just shared a Cox's with Pete - he cores and slices apples which is something he's always done for his family to the degree that his eldest daughter (now a grandma herself LOL) now NEVER eats them! All the rest require extra insulin, and bananas have such a bad effect on me, it's them I gave up years ago.
 
The only fruits I eat now are berries. Blackberries, Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries and they have little or no effect on my BG levels.
I would love dearly to have Manadrin oranges, Satsumas, Tangerines, Pears, Peaches, Nectarines, Mangos and Persimmon again but just do not want to take the risk of high or spiking BG levels. Lychees I adore but the carb levels are high at 31g per 190g and I can eat them by the ton so best avoid them I think. I just cannot settle with one or two of them.

Apples and blueberries for me. But never apples on their own. I put them into soya yogurt.

I only stick to berries now as everything else spikes my B/S. However, I was looking on the Diabetes recipe search for inspiration & nearly all their recipes have all manner of fruits that are supposed to spike blood sugars & they have refined sugar & honey in them! Not to mention refined flours! I don't get it!

That's because they stick to the UK nutritional guidelines which are wrong. I bought a diabetic cook book when first diagnosed. Absolute rubbish. They are just normal recipes. Nothig diabetic about them at all!

But I expect they are all scrupulously low fat, and swap butter for polyunsaturated replacements (despite recent evidence/research analysis that many saturated fats are actually better for you, and were unreasonably targeted in the past)

Ask for a diabetic meal on a flight and you get a plate full of carbs, rice, potatoes etc and fruit for dessert.
Everyone still thinks Diabetes is all about sugar and when you tell people it is not, they laugh. Crazy.

That's what confusing.
 
I once made the mistake of asking for a diabetic meal on a training course. All I got was a plate of lettuce, bit of tomato, and a slice of corned beef. I spent the next half hour nicking sausage rolls and other folks butties. I’d brought my insulin, and by god I was going to use it.😡:D
 
Berries other than blueberries are OK for me in a small bowl with cream after a meal, but if I stick to that then I have normal numbers, so I do.
Blueberries - like most fruit from the US is higher in sugars. The plants have been exported around the world.
 
I seem to be OK with satsumas and peaches.
 
I use insulin but high carbs give me large spikes which I try to avoid. I have found that if I choose small fruit it gives me a much lower and more acceptable rise in post prandial levels. Most supermarkets sell small bananas and apples targeted at kids.
I won’t give up foods completely unless I have tried eating smaller portions, eating them at different times of day and combining them with different foods or exercise. Otherwise diets just get too restrictive!
Strawberries and raspberries affect me very little especially when eaten with full fat yoghurt or crime fraiche, to the extent that I only cover them with insulin if having a massive portion.
