Friends want to go out and eat.... Previously I'd have had steak n chips or pizza as food allergies restricts what I can have....
What do you have when u eat out? 4 weeks since dx dont feel able to eat out yet

What sort of food will be available? Most chain restaurants have nutritional information available so you can find out the ones that are carb-light and those which are carb-heavy - it's not always obvious from the meal description, especially if sauces are involved. Steak with a few chips and side salad would be fine - not many carbs! Pizzas can be very carby, as can Chinese food. Personally, I try not to worry too much about things on a special occasion (which it has to be for me to eat out!) - I just go for the most obviously healthy option and expect that it might mean higher levels for an evening. Once in a while it does you good 🙂

Usually I hit a steak or something similarly meaty when I eat out. I tend to only have 5 or 6 chips. Usually the blood glucose response is not too bad afterwards especially if I have some alcohol too.

The other option we use occasionally is the local carvery, and again I can have plenty of meat and most the vegetables but I just have only one or two roasties (and avoid the yorkshires).

A little treat now and then is not a bad thing either, a few people on here work on the idea of once a month going out and having a nice meal as a reward for staying on diet for diabetes the rest of the time.

When i go out to eat i must admit i have what i fancy as i am good for 90% of the time and excercise regularly that a once a month treat i feel i deserve, after all you still have to enjoy life 🙂

If it's of any interest, a SMALL Yorkshire pud is only 5g of carb, so you could have one Yorkshire and I roastie and save carbs! Or have the gravy and call it the same .......

i met my mum sister neice in a 'prezzo' the other day 😱 but i had the chicken with spinach and mushrooms rather than pizza or pasta and it was yum and seemed fine x

The Yorkshires they serve in my local Toby seem to be almost as big as the plate 😱 🙄

Never bother about what I eat when dining out as I can cover this well with insulin, as a type 2 I can see that this can be extremely difficult and opting for carb free food or restricting the quantities would be preferable. A good management team will let you swap items or cook foods to your liking, why not try this and ask and hopefully they'll oblige.

The way I think about this is dont let it worry you and spoil yourevening,i seldom go out with mates and when I do I like to have a treat and throw caution to the wind for one evening, whatever you have hope you have a lovely evening.
