Called at the chemists today, for the second or third time, to ask after my prescription for Freestyle Libre sensors, apparently "issued" (electronically) by the GP on the 4th January, three weeks ago. I was told: "They restrict us to a quota. We are only sent a proportion of what we order." I was advised to order at least a month in advance, putting me at odds with a GP system that supposedly restricts me to one 28-day order per month. Are others experiencing this?

Hi JohnWhi:,
My g.p only allows 2 per month, which isn't sufficient for the year (one needs 2 every 4 weeks/28days), so I buy the extra myself.

I was told: "They restrict us to a quota. We are only sent a proportion of what we order."
Last time I picked some up (at Boots) they were a bit late. I heard the pharmacists complain to each over their computer that they couldn't order enough at a time.

I wonder if it's particular to some pharmacies, that there's some problem with logistics and their ordering systems haven't been adjusted to the larger numbers of sensors being prescribed.

It sounds like a pharmacy ordering policy, not a prescription issue problem. Can you try a different pharmacy?

I get my Libre from my small local Well+ chemist.
They have no problem with their orders. The last was fulfilled within 3 days of me filling in the online prescription request with my GP.

How frustrating for you @JohnWhi

Hope you can find a way to clear this up and get a regular supply

I suggest you contact your DSN or Gp if you are not under a DSN to let them know what is happening as I doubt they will be very happy with with what the pharmacy is doing .

Many thanks to all for the feedback and support. The pharmacy have telephoned me to say they have located a pack in another of their branches and, though their van driver was not able to reach them today, he should bring it tomorrow before I run out. Having moved ordering everything to three weeks in advance, I will gradually be able to move to the month required. The solution may possibly be on the horizon, as the pump clinic have offered (when they manage to see me) a Medtronic 780G with CGM, sensors delivered by another means. The GP surgery have made it clear in the past that they are unable to help, not least as I still await their Annual Review due in May 2020 and find, like my daughter who is also a patient, that they are "totally offensive to deal with".

I’ve heard similar words used in December when I was struggling to get insulin. They used the same words, we only get a quota! Madness.
