Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all, just got my Freestyle Libre in the post. I am obviously very keen to get it on and start scanning away, but I've read from a lot of sources that people get the best results if they apply it then wait 24 hours before activating it. Anyone have any experience with this? Should I wait or should I just activate it right away and see how it goes?

Hi,
I've been using the libre for about year and a half. It's always been very accurate and works immediately after 1 hour of applying. The graph always picks up (with a 1 hr gap) where it left off. Not everyone appears to have this accuracy and so they apply the sensor the day before etc.
Good luck! You'll soon get the hang of it, it's truly amazing. Very helpful.

I used to wait 24hours when I first started using it, but some time last year, Abbot improved the algorithm for the first 24hours, and now I find I get good results straight way, so I don’t bother to wait any more.

When au started off with my trial, my DSN helped me apply my first sensor and she said wait the first hour and then just start using it. At first I used it with my usual blood machine to compare accuracy and was impressed.

I had (before the algorithm change) a couple of sensors which read LO over the first night, but even then it didn't happen often enough for me to bother trying applying it before trying to use it. More recently they've all worked much as you'd hope: the readings an hour after applying (and after the hour of startup) have been close enough to test strips to be useful. (Not exactly the same, even allowing for the 10 minute or so lag, but not really more different than I'd anticipate a different test strip or a drop of blood from a different finger would be.)

(I'm aware that the things just don't seem to work for some people, but I'm doubtful that applying the sensor a day before starting it would be helpful for anyone.)

Thanks for your replies everyone, seems the information I have been reading was old. I've had it on a few hours already but I'm gonna go ahead and activate it! (I'm so excited :D)
