Every area has a ddifdernt system.
Definitely, it is often a maze to work out what the system is in your area when you start out.
I have, typically, found the options are surgery, hospital, pharmacy (although my local pharmacy is not large enough to swing a cat so has no space for drug deliveries let alone people's waste), or the council.

Up until a couple years ago my surgery used take them, but it changed to council contacting out. At least my surgery sent me letter informing me of the change.
