Thanks @Kaylz
The comment from @rebrascora reminds me that there is a hack to extend Libre 1 beyond the 14 days although it comes with an infection warning if you keep a sensor on for too long. I have read of some people extending their Libre to more than 20 days without any battery issues.
Glimp reads them past 14 days, I never did keep one on for days after it ended to compare accuracy but a few hours still worked well xx

What is Glimp?

Glimp, Spike and xDrip are alternative phone apps for reading LIbre sensors.
They have features that the official LibreLink app does not like the ability to calibrate the sensor.

Awesome, thanks. I'll check them out. Maybe one of them will pull the data into the apple health app which I'd really like to do.

Found Glimp hopeless, still not had issues with libre 2 & still reading more accurate than 1.

As far as I'm aware Glimp doesn't work with Libre 2's xx

When I started Libreing, I found Glimp much better than LibreLink but when I got my MiaoMiao, I migrated to xDrip+ and been using it for the last 18 months.
Now xDrip+ing with OOP2 and Libre 2 so no need for Miaomiao to use it as a calibrated CGM.

Neither Glimp nor xDrip+ work with Apple although there is a xDripiOS.

Not getting into battery drain again but have been examining a Libre-1 sensor in more detail so just some info...

The battery is SR626SW also known as 377, it should last for some time
Size: 2.6mm x 6.8mm Voltage: 1.55v Type:- Silver Oxide

The processor, a Texas Instruments RF430FRL152H is quite interesting, designed to interpret and store analog values and incorporating Near Field Communication (NFC)

It does have several programmable low power modes that mean, even with battery connected, it will not drain the battery as when in "active" mode.

I haven't analysed the internal code so far.

A more readable white paper mentioning blood sugar capture:

I believe this is the US equivalent of the LibreLink app that we have been using with Libre 2 in Europe since the new sensors were released.
Yes, I think you're right. The story and press release aren't entirely clear but I think I'm persuaded that they're consistent with the thing just being what we have here already.

Hello

My free trial has just arrived and I scared. The needle looks big. Does it hurt applying it please?
When you remove it touch the “needle” it really isn’t a needle, more like I bit of flexible plastic. I used to get my daughter to do the application, she’s quite sadistic and it didn’t bother her lol. But now I’m completely fine to do it myself. Removal is just like taking a plaster off, you can use any oil to loosen the adhesive rim, totally painless. I got so brave I pierced my own ears with a kit from Amazon… totally different story !!!

The sensor filament (which stays in your arm when the sensor is in use) is flexible, but the inserter which delivers it has a short needle with a groove along it, in which the filament nestles 🙂

Agghhh did you have to say that ??

Surely there being a needle involved isn’t a surprise? It’s quite clear when you insert it and a soft flexible filament by itself would never pierce your skin

Which is just as well really (sharp I mean) - the sensor has to come into contact with our interstitial layer, which is the layer directly below the skin - in order to work in the first place. How could it get there otherwise?

Yes ok. I understand

Hello @EmmaL76.
.........but you know it attaches without undue pain and removal is not a problem so well done you.
By the way I use Brava spray adhesive remover which makes plasters even easier to remove just one quick spray around the edge and it peels off. It is also available on free prescription if you qualify.

Best

Thanks mark! I still haven’t quite got my head around the difficulties some of the guys have had on here getting it on prescription. I just took it for granted we all did and it was a real shocker to find out that’s not the case. It would be good if at least the price of the libre 1 could come down as new versions get released, or will they phase them out? This stuff blows my mind which is not difficult as I’m obviously not the sharpest tool in the medicine cabinet
