Is there an "angle" on the free diabetes blood tester thats always on being offered on FB whats the catch,or is ok to try and get one thanks Charlie

I presume you mean the diabetes.co.uk offer? The only 'angle' really is that they are using this 'offer' in order to help promote their website - the meters are offered free anyway, regardless of going through their site, but no problems using the offer if you wish 🙂

Note that the diabetes.co.uk site has nothing to do with Diabetes UK, although many people make the mistake of thinking it does (and they do nothing to clarify the distinction).

Most suppliers such as Bayer and Abbott's will give you a meter for free if you're on insulin. It's the strips that cost you, if you can't get them on prescription, with the normal charge ranging between ?25 and ?30 for a pot of fifty.

Caresens will sens a free meter to anyone - T1 or T2, on insulin or not.

They have also recently launched a 'talking meter' for people with impaired vision:

Strips are ?12-15ish a pot I think
Strips are ?12.75 direct from the manufacturer Mike - orders over ?100 get free P&P.

Strips are generally only ?25 - 30 over the counter in UK (direct from the manufacturer they are almost invariably only 2/3 of the price) plus the OTC price includes VAT and diagnosed diabetics don't pay VAT on diabetic equipment but most shops aren't geared up for this. Online pharmacies and manufacturers are.

As I am in the process of changing docs, and not sure how many test strips they will allow. Hopefully a trade off of getting a better doctors service and maybe less strips, I ordered the N sens pop which arrived by return of post.

Been doing same sample comparison tests between the pop and the next usb, the pop constantly reads 0.6 high. Not the biggest difference I have seen between meters, will be interesting to see what the difference between readings are when I get a hypo reading on the next usb.

The meter was supplied free of charge along with a requested data cable.
