Off to the fracture clinic yet again this afternoon for my broken foot - metatarsal 5. Will they let me take the orthopaedic boot off that I've now been wearing for 15 weeks??!!

Wow - that's a long time! I broke the same 5th in May (same time as Daniel Craig!), it was only kept on 6 weeks, and I have been doing daily exercises since. Having said that, it was a further 3 weeks before I could drive, and the foot still hurts 6 months later! I do hope you get the boot off and get back to a normal life.

Fingers crossed for you.

Good luck Amanda everything is crossed.

Good luck

Luck Amanda!

Thank you everyone. Not much change. I’m in the boot for at least another six weeks which will make it a minimum of 21 weeks. I don’t want surgery but he said that would only be done as a last resort because of the risk of infection. Just hope I get better news at the Moorfields glaucoma appointment on Monday because I know that I’m getting closer and closer to risk surgery with that.

Sorry it was not more positive news. Hope your Moorfields appointment goes well.

Sorry to hear this, what a rotten thing for you, you must be really cheesed off. I hope your Moorfields appointment is more encouraging xx

Ah sorry to hear you are still needing the boot. Hope the time passes quickly and you recover fully.

All the best for your Moorfields appointment.

Sorry to hear you have to keep the damn boot on, but better than the alternative perhaps. Good luck with the Moorfields appointment too.

Thank you Grovesy, Mike, Sue and Greymouser. I think I'll be able to stay positive as long as they don't want to operate on either the foot or the eyes xx

Sorry to hear the boot is staying put for another 6 weeks. Hoping Monday's appointment is a positive one.

Sorry about your foot and that flipping boot Amanda, better news on Monday. xxx

*{hugs}* ??

It’s really tough when a few weeks in a boot/ cast rolls on into months and months Amanda. Have the orthopaedic team said that long term diabetes has messed up your bone healing process? That’s the message I keep getting.

Sending you positive vibes for your eye appointment on Monday 🙂

Thank you Flower
They've said the slow healing of the fracture is because of the diabetes but when I broke my right femur in my early 20's that healed in the expected timescale. So my assumption with the foot is that it is not just the diabetes but the length of time of being diabetic that's messed up the healing process.
