hi folks,

2nd post for me here.

So I’ve now seen the diabetic doctor now and they have taken me off Lyxumia, sitagliptin and put me on foxigia with my metformin.

Any one else tried this at all? Did it work for you?

Many thanks.

Just as an update to this.

Went to pick up my prescription and my pharmacy said they had never had foxigia and had to order it. This surprised me. I knew this drug was new but thought it would have been prescribed more regularly by now.

The other thing was that my diabetic doctor (different to my GP) had to look everything up regarding each new medication I suggested. I suggested and SLP-1 drug as soon as I sat down. The doctor suggested insulin - which I declined especially with an hb1c of 65 which doesn’t seem high enough to start taking insulin. It is was a little worrying when you seem more up to speed on the meds than the doctor.....though to be fair the doctor was very thorough checking the interactions and effects on my ticker the new drugs might have.

Why would you contemplate insulin or indeed any other medication if your BG was LOW? Do you mean HIGH?

Can I ask whether you know absolutely for definite that you are T2, have they done C-peptide and GAD65 tests in December?

Hi Jenny,

Thanks for your reply.

I’ve been type 2 for 10 years now. I test my BG most mornings and it’s always 10-11 which does reflect my hb1c test in Dec 2017 of 65 or 8.1. It was 67 in April. Yes I ment high enough sorry I will change that

I had a Glucose tolerance test back in 2007 - def type 2.

I was on Foxigia for a good few months, it worked for a short while then it stopped working for me altogether, my levels shot up into the high teens and 20's when it stopped working, ended up back on horrible for me gliclazide.

I'm on it, doesn't seem to be working as I'm still getting BM's of 15 and 20 also on Sitagliptin.
My last HbA1c was 87
However some drugs work for some.

Hi All,

I know it’s early days on this new med foxgia. My BG is still stable at 10 in the mornings. It did drop to 7.8 before my evening meal which was interesting. I work shifts so tend to eat late around 8pm.

I’m wondering whether I should be on a triple therapy - with a Sulphonyurea say Amarel or glicaside(excuse my spelling) it may just make the 1-2 drop in my BG levels which would make all the difference.

Does anyone here know if all Sulphonyurea drugs have weight gain as a side effect? Or is there one that doesn’t?
I’m going back on my bike soon and though it’s electric it gives a great workout as you have to pedal to move - also the motor stops assistance at 15mph so if I keep my speed above this I’m doing all the work. Really brought my love of cycling back - it looks like a mountain bike too so I don’t look silly riding it. It’s hills everywhere I live so it really helps on the slopes.

Would be interested in any experience people have had with the drugs mentioned above.

Thanks so much.

Only going off my own experience and I am an oddball when it comes to meds and my reactions to them. I am on a triple whammy of diabetic meds of metformin, sitagliptin and gliclazide to which I hate the gliclazide. I have always had trouble with gliclazide as it's so erratic with me and taking it means some times it works to well and I have to eat extra or take hypo treats, which for me encourages weight gain for me. I have recently been put on the maz dose of gliclazide and so far it's not working very well only had one low of 4.3 and trying to get into a more uniformed eating pattern which for me is awkward in trying to avoid the situations of going hypo or high, which has meant when out having to have a meal, as yet not weighed myself since the increase dose in gliclazide though did take a weight measurement when I was at the docs recently as a reference point.
