I just forgot to take levemir injection last night at around 9pm. I'm type 1 diabetic any advice? I took it at 3.10 a.m it's now 5.00 a.m don't wanna go hospital but ambulance on the way

They didn't tell me in out of hours on phone to do novorapid to get it down aswell they seemed to want me to end up in hospital. I've done 8 units novorapid at 5.20 a.m now gonna try get some sleep and I've cancelled ambulance. What a palava so hard having this diabetes type 1 it's complicated

@Ditsy daisy this original thread is almost 10 years old so you might have stood more chance getting a response if you'd posted your own separate thread, what were your blood sugars like when you remembered about your Levemir and took it? also what were they like when you took 8 units of Novorapid? Do you not have a meter to check ketones for yourself? When I wasn't sure if I got my full dose of Tresiba once I just did extra checks and would've corrected with Novorapid, this is also the advice from 111 generally xx

Oops I was just panicking forgot how to start a new thread on here. I forgot my levemir injection it was due at around 9pm then when I woke up and realised how bad I was feeling I realised I hadn't done the injection at all. My blood sugar was 23.0 when I checked it. I didn't know what to do so I did the levemir injection of 36 units (3 a.m in morning) then I rang out of hours coz I was feeling sick and ill. I did novorapid when I cancelled the ambulance I didn't wanna go in to hospital. They gave me no advice on phone just said do you have ketones testing kit. I havn't got one. If they had told me do novorapid it would have helped me. Thanks for your advice maybe I do it next time if it happens again. But how do u know how much novorapid to do or how much to eat with it? I had hypo this morning then high again by the time got up

I don't know Levemir so I cant comment there but you will end up with an overlap so I'd keep an extra close eye on things for now, I'd just correct as normal with my correction factor but there wouldn't be any need to eat on the correction dose as that's to bring your levels down so you'd still need to inject for carbs as well if you were having carbs, you ought to speak to your team about getting a meter for checking ketones as well xx

Aww Thanks for your help I just rang my diabetes nurse. In my particular case She says if the injection has been missed by more than 4 hours do half the full dose of levemir and around 5 or 6 units novorapid aswell. I got it wrong I did the whole levemir dose and 8 units of Novorapid hours later. I've also asked to get a ketones testing kit this time she said she'll give me one ☺

Yeah advice differs based on which insulin you use, I use Tresiba which can last 42 hours so for me I would correct if needed during the day and take next basal dose as usual, great to hear your getting a ketone meter 🙂 xx
