I just take one dose in the morning,Perhaps you did take your dose this morning then? How many doses of Lantus do you usually take in a day?

If you've taken 8 units you potentially didn't need, that equates to an extra one third of a unit per hour, so if you test every two hours, provided you're above the level that might drop you whatever two thirds of a unit would, you should be OK.I will check for sure, wishing I had not taken the extra dose and didn't live alone but sure I will be fine. Do you think every two hours is enough?
Yes, can feel very vulnerable without a plan! I am trying to not worry! At least I have this forum for support.Yes, please do check through the night - set those alarms! It's a pain, but better to stay safe. Let us know how things go, and try not to worry. Keep some jelly babies to hand 🙂 It's only when we do something like this that we realise we don't have a plan worked out!
I hope you you manage to get some sleep in between checking your levels NJ. Update when you can even if its in the early hours ((((hugs)))) xxxI will check for sure, wishing I had not taken the extra dose and didn't live alone but sure I will be fine. Do you think every two hours is enough?
@Robin trying to understand this, seems important! What do you mean by 'provided you're above the level that might drop you whatever two thirds of a unit would? ThanksIf you've taken 8 units you potentially didn't need, that equates to an extra one third of a unit per hour, so if you test every two hours, provided you're above the level that might drop you whatever two thirds of a unit would, you should be OK.
Be careful tomorrow, though, if you take your usual 16 ithe morning, you will have a bit too much in the system during the day tomorrow. (Easier to cope with during the day, though.)
Thanks and sure I will be fine, will keep you posted!I hope you you manage to get some sleep in between checking your levels NJ. Update when you can even if its in the early hours ((((hugs)))) xxx
Sorry! I mean, if you know what one unit of insulin drops you, then you can estimate how much you're likely to drop in the next couple of hours, based on that, and knowing you might have a third of a unit too much in your system every hour.@Robin trying to understand this, seems important! Ok that's helpful so it seems to me if I go to bed much higher than normal and then test every two hours, I will be fine. My ratio is same to you so having a extra third of a unit isn't going to cause too much of a drop. I am going to the shop to buy treats, think I need them!Sorry! I mean, if you know what one unit of insulin drops you, then you can estimate how much you're likely to drop in the next couple of hours, based on that, and knowing you might have a third of a unit too much in your system every hour.
For example, I know that if I'm at 8.0, one unit of insulin correction dose would lower me to 5.0, because that's my ratio. So if I woke and I was 8.0, then in the next two hours I might drop to 6. If I was 6 at the next two hour check, I might expect to drop to 4 after the following two hours, so I would eat something.
You could just ditch the maths, and if you've dropped when you wake, eat something! Probably simpler!
Thanks and all good here, no dramas and excellent numbers. 5.6 at moment, will sleep some more!Hope you've managed to have a good night, with no dramas 🙂
