Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello I am a newbie to this forum and supposed to have type 2 + I also have a Iliostomy so Its very hard trying to sort out meals that don't upset my insides ie:- I can only eat a very small amount of fruit and veg etc. Anybody else with the same problem 🙂

My brother has a stoma bag and he can eat most foods. As a Type 2 I avoid fruit (the glucose spikes by Blood Glucose and the fructose gives me fatty liver).
Quite a few Type 2 diabetics (more in the other forum rather than this one) control their T2 by eating Keto or practically carnivore. I eat Low Carb but that includes salad leave, broccoli, cauliflower and other low carb veg (not potato or carrot) as well as fish, meat, cheese, eggs, nuts and full fat dairy.

We have had a few people ask similar questions over the years, unfortunately they dont seem to hang around or feed back. I think it is a case of deciding what is the most important requirements for you.

It doesn't seem to matter what I eat stoma wise but it puts my blood sugar levels up I am anything from 5,6 in the morning to 3.5 just now it will most likely be up to around 6.8 just before the evening meal

Are you on any medication for the Diabetes ?

Welcome to the forum @MickyDee

There are threads about living with T2 and an Ileostomy here:

But perhaps the simplest thing might be for you to list the sorts of foods that suit your ileostomy, and then our T2s would be able to identify the ones on that list which are likely to raise your BG levels (most likely any which are high in carbohydrate).

Are you OK with eggs? cheese? cream? How about cauliflower?
