Hiya All. I'm a relatively newly diagnosed type one and I think I am doing ok but I have a major problem. I'm a Man City season ticket holder (that's not the problem) and whenever I watch us play, even on telly my reading go through the roof (for me). Typically pre match I will be in the 7s, 14 by the start of the match, 18 at half time and back down to 8 within an hour of the final whistle. Its doing my head in because I feel v weary above about 11/12. Any suggestions?

Welcome pgcity.

Unfortunately, I can't help apart from saying "stop watching football"😉

I'm sure there's a solution out there. Apparently exitement can make you go high or low. My daughter goes low.
Fingers crossed you'll get some proper answers soon. There are "experts" here, I'm just not one of them😛

Ta for the welcome. I knew stress could make you go high but not excitement and it is definately exciting.

It's something to do with adrenalin release.
I'm surprised nobody else has butted in yet lol.

.....It's called stress....you need to swap over to the 'other' team in the city! :D

Hi, welcome to the forum 🙂 Stress and/or excitement often makes levels rise (although it also makes them fall in some people!). Adrenalin and cortisol prompt the liver to release extra glucose into the bloodstream to give you an energy 'boost'. Unfortunately, without a working pancreas you don't produce extra insulin of your own so this increased glucose stays in the blood.

As it seems to be a predictable rise you could speak to your diabetes nurse about the possibility of adjusting insulin doses to help overcome the rise. As you are pretty new to diabetes then it's best if you get some proper medical advice rather than experimenting on your own, especially since you report falling back again quite quickly afterwards 🙂 You will probably learn through experience what sort of adjustments work best for you, but it will mean lots of experimentation and watching lots of City matches! 🙂

At last some proper answers lol

It sounds like the carb count for Man City is 40g! 😉 :D

Welcome pgcity.

You might not like this suggestion, but only solution I can think of is to play football rather than watching Man City! 🙂

I'm rubbish at headers and too old to play. I've been waiting for 30 years for City to be good so am a bit gutted that it's becoming such a chore.

Just wondering also, with the watching the game, is there any can's of cheery lubrication involved at all? was just wondering if they might be possibly not getting counted or the usual silliness involved with a couple of cans and what it does to levels might be involved is all.

Otherwise, guess a couple of units before a game and a few tests while watching to learn how things go and balance yourself out for future game?

Not added lager too the mix yet but that is the plan. I'm not eating anything after about 1pm for a 3pm KO or after 6pm for 7.45pm KO and am having meals I have counted and bolused for sucessfully so far. I wanted to be sure it was really excitement that was the cause.

Once you have run a few tests and spotted a pattern you could call/email/visit your DSN to get their advice. Could very well be something that they will be able to suggest some insulin adjustment for.

Other than that - how about running around at half time?!

I didn't have to be diabetic to suffer dreadfully when watching Man City when at University in the mid 80's!

I think it goes with the territory! Well, it used to before the sugar daddies arrived! :D

Quite a bit of jumping up and down already involved and I'd be worried exercising at 18 as I have been advised avoid exercise over 12. I think I will have to add a unit to my bolus and test a lot. Bit worried because my correction is between 6 and 7.

The 80s were bad in many ways (apart from the smiths and the hacienda). Showing my age now
