Morning,
Its still very painful. Foot just keeps on burning. Its still open and unfortunately still have puss swelling and redness around it. For such a small wound its giving me hell.
Spoke to my GP and she has prescribed some iodine dressings which ill pick up today. I'm halfway through my flucloxacillian got 3 days left.. I havnt looked today at it yet as I'm waiting on the new dressings.
She's said to make sure the redness i have around the wound dosnt get any bigger.
If its still open and weeping by next Thursday, I've an appointment with the nurse to try new dressings.

Sorry to hear this :(

You really have been given a rough ride with this haven’t you?

It does suck.
I don't believe its the diabetes that's causing the issue. I still 100% believe that my diabetes has recently only started. So the amount of damage that my foot would have had from high sugars just would not have happened so much in the 4 months of me having it. I think what ever root I stepped on had something on it thats slowed the healing down. Apparently if an object goes through a rubber soled shoe into the foot there's an increased risk of infections. Due to a certain bacteria that like that kind of thing.
Who knows. I'm just fed up, this year has just been a disaster.

If this was me I would be inclined to use my horse first aid kit and do a hot poultice to draw it out. In the olden days people would have used a bread poultice. Not sure why poulticing has gone out of fashion for drawing pus in humans. Certainly works great on horses and they are quite prone to hoof punctures. Not recommending this of course. Just saying what I might try with an infected foot which wasn't responding to medical treatment as I would hope.

What are your BG levels like? As you say, it is unlikely that any diabetes damage will have occurred to impede the recovery but high BG levels will certainly slow the healing process, so it is quite important to keep your levels as well managed as possible, otherwise the bacteria can thrive in the elevated glucose environment.

In general as soon as I was allowed to adjust my insulin to meals its been between 6 and 8. Fasting around 7. Could be a bit better i suppose been that way for over a month now. My last hba1c was 69 that I had done last month. But considering how high it was going at the beginning I'm ok with that.
The last few days its creeping up, but that's only because my body is fighting an infection.

I'm just going to let the pus come out naturally as I don't want to damage any healing that is happening.

I still have, from decades ago, a pump thing for expressing breast milk and when I got bitten on my leg and it was looking a bit nasty, I put a warm cloth over it for a few minutes and then used the pump. One blob of nasty greyish yellow stuff later it felt a lot better and soon healed up.
If the wound was infected in woodland then there can be a lot going on in the leaf litter that you would not want under your skin, so having the wound open and expelling the nasty stuff is a good thing. You want it to heal from the inside.

I agree. It gets washed and cleaned everyday, sometimes twice. I remove the pus that I can. Without damaging any tissue that is healing. To be honest I thought it would have stopped weeping by now. It goes through my dressing. I just need to be patient I suppose.
I think I would have preferred to step on a nail at this point in time....

Luck of the draw.
The nail I stepped on was a rusty old thing, attached to an old piece of moss covered mouldy wood off a shed roof, so it wasn't the cleanest.
That also went though my trainer.
I would also clean it as much as possible.
(Mine was originally cleaned in a&e by a doctor with an ear bud he pushed into the hole. That was quite painful to say the least!)
It's unlikely you can damage healing tissue, you may get down to it, but even if you abrade it, you'll get a healthy blood flow which can only help the wound.
You may even find if you do prod it more aggressively, there may be a piece of the original thorn still in there.

The correct dressings could make all the difference, I had some horrendous blisters on four fingers on one hand (self inflicted by ringing bells for too long on a hot day) but thinking I was doing the right thing put blister plasters on, well what a mess. They were not a pretty sight and so painful. I had to see the nurse at the surgery and she applied some special dressings and it was magic, they healed really quickly.
Silver dressings are supposed to be really good, if the iodine ones don't help.

How is your foot doing. I really hope it is better now

The iodine dressing have definitely helped with the healing.
Its still sore to walk on and can't stand on the foot for too long before the throbbing starts. But its definitely better then it was. Though today its playing up more then yesterday. Not weeping either now.
Still not closed up. I've been taking pictures every day to see how the healing is going. Its hard for me to see otherwise.
My antibiotics finished a couple of days ago now. Hopefully they will have wiped out the infection. The skin isn't as red as it was before.
The black that developed around it hasn't spread either. Which is what the Dr was worried about.

Things seem to be heading in the right direction at long last.
I can understand why the Dr was worried, do keep an eye on it
Isn’t any nurse keeping an eye on the wound either by pics or f2f ?
If not, I really think they should be .

If you have a marker or gel pen, Mark not too close around the red - black area this will give you an even better idea of if it’s spreading or decreasing, I’ve had this done quite a few times at in hospital and at the podiatry clinic.

No nobody is really checking it. Since last week.
I've got an appointment with a nurse tomorrow morning IF its still weeping but its not so may not go. Yea I take a pic away so I can see if it spreads outside the area. But a marker pen is a good idea.

I would say if you are still getting pain and as you say it is hard to see yourself I should still go for the appointment to get it checked by the nurse even if it is not weeping.

Sorry I am late. I hope you went to the appointment.

How is your foot doing.

Agh, my toes are curled at the thought! Told my son and he said it could have been worse, it could have been a needle. He cracks me up sometimes, talk about Eeyore. Update please, hope you are healed. 🙂

The hole itself has scabbed over and inside. The skin has peeled away from around the area. I managed to open it up a little when I stepped out of bed and felt the skin split . Still a little red but not as much. The whole side of my foot has constant nerve pain with burning and painful to walk on. Definitely hit some nerves in my foot when I did it.
But it is a lot better then it was before.
I can't believe its been over 4 weeks and its still not healed up.
Thanks for checking up on me guys

That sounds very miserable. I hope you get some relief soon. I would be vigilant.
