Thank you I will push for this ...carb counting. He is confused a bit as his PE teacher was type 1 and ate mars bars all the time!! (injecting for them though)

Unbelievably for the NHS, when my husband and I went back to talk to the hopsital as we were feeling a bit lost about things I asked about a pump and they said we could have one! ( 2 weeks in!)

After talking to other people (one a doctor with type 1 ) some people love them and others don't like being attached all the time.

I think it might be too early days for Joel but we will see. He is 20 so he can decide. I am hoping a wireless one comes available, I know there are some available in the USA.

Thank you so much for all your food ideas ....I am going to find a good book and get cooking 🙂

Wow well done for the pump! i hope this will make life easier for you and your son 🙂 I have been diagnosed 4 months now and really want a pump as i dont like doing injections and i think my carb counting is coming along! I know they are not very good arguments for a pump but i soo want one, i get my very first HBA1C result next week so may ask my dsn if there is any chance for me 🙂

Hi D_G - new to this site and only been diagnosed with type 1 for nearly two weeks so sorry if stupid question but what is an HBA1C result as seen it mentioned on various pages

Hiya josh i just replied on your other thread lol, its not a stupid question at all as i was asking all these sorts of things when i was 2 weeks into my diagnosis (now 4 months)

The test diabetics have is the HbA1c test, which indicates your blood glucose levels for the previous two to three months. (or in my case four months) The HbA1c measures the amount of glucose that is being carried by the red blood cells in the body.

So its basically like an average of all your blood glucose levels to see how well it is being controlled, hope this helps 🙂

how are you coping? if you need anyone to talk to or rant to feel free to msg me 🙂

D_G Thank you very much for that reply. I think Im coping well at the moment and not needing to rant yet. Got various appointments booked, two at hospital for carb counting and to visit diabetes specialist and another meeting planned to meet my community nurse. Expecting to find out a lot more at these meetings as really unsure about what foods are good/bad at the moment. This website looks amazing though and have looked through loads of things tonight

No worries we are all here to help! 🙂

Yea you will find you will be fully booked with appointments shortly after diagnosis, this is to make sure they give you lots of information about your insulin regime, keeping track of what your sugars are doing and learn about nutrition and carb counting etc... you will find this helpful and gain a better understanding of it all. It is alot to take in when you first get diagnosed so dont overwhelm yourself and take it one step at a time 🙂

This forum is brilliant!! i have learned so much from here than i ever did from my healthcare team so stick around and ask all the questions you want, go over the past threads and you will deffo learn a thing or two! i have found this forum my lifesaver ever since i joined, everyone is so friendly and willing to help and now i have been a member around 4 months i have the confidence to give advice to others...also it is a great place to rant about anything....not just the diabetes 🙂 im glad to hear you are coping ok 🙂

my wife is an absolute angel but has no idea what so ever about what i should and shouldn't eat ,
