Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all I'm type 2 have been on insulin 8 years been a diabetic 30 years weight 8 stone hbc1 is 56 why does my insulin make me want to eat more every time they have said to increase it I just want to eat more I'm not a big person I'm tiny but the weight is going on constant eating ive decrease my insulin from 16 to 12 units if I didn't keep up with the food intake I would have hypos x

Sorry to read 9f your challenges with insulin.
If you are hypoing, your insulin dose is too high. You should not need to "feed" your 8nsuloj. The dose should be enough to keep your BG in range for the food you eat. Not the 9ther way around
What type of insulin do you take and how do you calculate your dose?

I don't calculate my dose I was told to have the units they put me on then when I change my dose they moan at me I'm on abasaglar x

If you have to eat to avoid hypos then you’re taking too much. I’d ignore my team and reduce the dose.

Just tell them that the amount of insulin they put you on is causing you to have hypos so you reduced it in order to stop they hypos, if they get cross ask them what you should have done. It’s your diabetes and you should be allowed to have a say in how it is managed. Being hypo a lot is not healthy and your team should know that!

I've got to go back on the 15th August it's driving me mad more time out off work some says I'm to scared to do it and avoid eating and then not taking the insulin jyst scares me to have a hypo x

Sorry to hear about the hypo worries you are having @Sharon28

Are you confirming your symptoms and sensations with a BG check? What sort of numbers are you seeing?

When do you take your Absalgar? And do you wake at roughly the same BG level you went to bed on? Absalgar is a long-acting insulin which is designed to be working in the background to support your home-grown insulin production. It isn’t supposed to be working directly on meals, but more acting as a general background ‘top up’.

I agree with others, if you are worrying a lot about hypos, and seeing lots of low BG readings when you miss or delay meals that it feels like your dose isn’t set right.

Perhaps you would be better with a separate mealtime insulin so that you could have a lower ’background’ dose?

Hope you get some reassurance on 15th

I've had 12 units of insulin and my bloods are 13. 9 which don't mean any thing to me it's all confusing all I no the insulin will make my bloods go to low and it won't stop till I eat some thing else before they go to low thus could be 2 hours after dinner x

why did you take 12u if you know 12u will make you go low then? why not try taking less next time its due?

I've not got a clue in what I'm doing any more I'm supposed to be taking 16 I've taken it to 12 see how it goes the only way to get to talk to the nurse is by an appointment which by the time I see them it will be 6 weeks so I'm adjusting it by my self see how it goes if its still to much I'll lower it Evan more but how can I find out how much to have according to my blood sugars x

How many units do I take if they are 12 because i don't no how to work it out x

Is there any reason since you have been on insulin for 8 years that you are not having a basal /bolus regime so you could lower your dose of basal which is the insulin you are on at the moment and should be dealing with the glucose released by the liver 24/7 without giving you hypos but with a bolus insulin which you would take for the meals you have.

I really don't think they no what to give me Evan I'm confused with it all just wished I never started it just want to come off it now it gets me down Evan thinking about what to eat x
