Hello. I was just wondering if anyone else has been prescribed fluoxetine & if so what effect they found on their bg's? The patient info leaflet mentions it can affect bg's '& your dr may need to adjust your insulin doses' (rofl @ that, gp is great but even the diab team at hosp leave it to me.. ..) I've noticed a lot of highs lately but i don't think there has been a steady pattern as such & there have been a lot of outside factors too (illness, not sleeping, stress, not eating well etc).

I've only been taking them a few days but am feeling quite queasy, hoping that's just anxiety & will settle as I get used to them...

Anyone got experience they wouldn't mind sharing please? 😱

Hi Twitchy, can't help with the effect on BG's, but I took Fluoxetine for PND and recall the first fortnight having heightened anxiety from them, it wore off. Anti-D's can have a paradox effect initially, if the queasiness doesn't wear off go back to GP for a change to another SSRI.

Hope you feel better soon x 🙂

Hi Twitchy, I am on Fluoxetine since March and for me whether it was weight loss or the tablets but I ended up having a lot of low blood sugers where I had to keep reducing my lantus until it ended up being half of what it was. In the first few weeks I also did feel sick, and did have a couple of panic attacks, and I did feel worse before I started to feel level again But these will last for a short time, make sure you have friends and family around to talk to or just sit with, drink lots of water as I was told that the tablets can dehydrate you - oh forgot to say I had a headache for a couple of weeks too but the water helped with that for me. Good luck they do help in the end it's just the first steps , and for me they felt massive x x

Hi Twitchy,

There is a list here of medication that alters BG levels and Prozac comes into both categories of either high or low blood sugars, this is an American site.

I had to gradually decrease mine after 8 - 9 months to come off them as I started to hallucinate. When you see imaginary people looking in the windows upstairs without the aid of ladders and rats holding a ballrooom dance on your lounge floor you know something isn't right. It was quite scary.😱

I am off them now and have come to terms with my problems.
