I had my first flu jab on Friday - discussed it with the DN nurse beforehand. Didn't feel a thing but have felt slightly light-headed today and have a runny nose coming -have checked and my readings which are fine. Arm a little sore - is this just likely to be an effect of the injection.....🙂

Also why do they ask if you're allergic to eggs or chicken?

It might be a little reaction to the jab, or coincidental - some people have found it raised their levels for a while. The normal jab is egg-based, hence the question 🙂

and chicken? must be a difficult decision if you're vegetarian....

Maybe the chicken question is related to the egg one - same DNA etc.? There is a non-egg version available to those who have allergies 🙂

Re the egg / chicken question - a few years ago, I was working at a travel clinic, and a local business which imported handicrafts wanted to provide immunisations for all staff. After discussion with the clinic, the business decided not to go ahead, as most staff were buddhist and / or vegetarian / vegan, so not willing to accept products grown in eggs.

If you're allergic, you'd get a reaction within minutes or hours, much less likely to be days - and reaction wouldn't be a sore arm. A sore arm is pretty common, although less so with good technique by both injector and injectee - difficult to say to relax, but it really does work. Having been on both ends of the needle, I long ago realised that injecting into a tense muscle isn't comfortable! So, place the back of your hand on your thigh, then let arm flop. Some people do get cold / flu like symptoms after a flu jab, but so do many people who haven't had one - it's very difficult to know for sure whether it's coincidence or cause & effect.

I thing it's AlisonM here who has an egg allergy and has to have a different formulation - so yes, the egg/chicken thing must be to do with vaccine ingredients.

I had mine on Saturday morning, and have not been effected negatively so far...........I suppose there is still time...........:D
