Hi

My work are buying fish and chips from a chippy tomorrow for lunch.
I am probably not going to have it due to the high level of carbs and fat.
Just thought I would ask if there are any suggestions of what I could have if I do decide to have something.

Thank you

Ask for a child’s portion? And/or leave much of the batter and have only a small amount of chips. Or maybe you could arrange to share a small portion with a colleague?

Thank you, I had considered the child's portion but not sharing a portion.

Have the fish (removed the batter), no chips but have peas.

I have trained my local chippy to do me a lightly battered fish and a mini portion of chips - works for me.

Some chippies I've been in there's no need to ask for a child's portion.

Must admit couldn't order fish without eating the batter, think I'd rather do without.

Hollow out the fish and have a few chips, and/or pick a savaloy to go with it, consider it as a treat, if you can do a ten min fast walk afterwards the resultant effect should be negligible.

Our local chippy’s portions are mahoosive! Even one between the two of us is too much now so we’ve stopped using them. They do a “mini fish” but the proportion of batter to fish is much higher so pretty pointless for me

I have a large fish with mushy peas when ordering from fish and chip shops, it seems to be an OK choice but I have to keep clear of chips and although the local chippy has a thin enough batter some I have come across make it very easy to leave on the plate as they make it so thick and stodgy.
I can't understand the logic of a small fish - that is the good bit, so more is better than less

Yeah we always try to go where you get decent size portions, for price nowadays it makes sense.

I teased my local chippy owner that he'd go out of business if he kept on giving such huge portions - he actually rewrote his price list and added smaller portions at lower prices and finds that at the end of the month his trade no longer dips as much, but he still takes less that last week as people seem to be struggling to reach their next payday.
