Nice to see the Doctor from the Ward. Hope I was looking and smelling better. I still have to self monitor my blood. Take the medication as prescribled. Lose weight, eat properly and exercise.
Got to see the Dietian next time. Until then more blood tests, eye test and feet checked, Well I at least I'm not alone. This is the first time I have entered a FORUM. Cheers Clive55555

Welcome to the forum Clive a place full of information. It's good that you are testing your levels as it will help identify what food does to you. If you keep a food diary test before eating and then 2 after and you can build up a pattern of foods and there effects on you, probably the dietitian will ask you to keep a food diary as part of them working with you.

The problem with Keeping a Food Diary, is since I have been Diagnosed with Diabetes, I have developed a liking for Low Fat Yoghurt (from Hospital). But I can't justify, keeping them in my Food Plan because their high calorie content. Anyway thanks for the contact. Cheers clive55555

For me the yogurt is not a problem as I hate the stuff, others will be able to say what they do with it, or if it's just a rare treat. Have a look at the total carb content of the yogurt as that will say if it's OK to have, the higher the carb count the worse it is for us.

Hi Pav Thanks for pointing out the difference between, calories and carbohydrates, I was just thinking of losing weight. Will keep my mind alert when I meet up with the Diabetes Dietician. Balancing Diabetes and dieting is going to be even more difficult. Thanks for the contact Cheers clive55555

Hi Clive - I don't think natural yoghurt has too many calories although may have to stand corrected on this one. I get on OK with Onken low fat, Greek Fage low fat and Skyr but not everyone is the same. I know everyone cannot stomach plain yoghurt due to its sourness - I love it personally. One of my ex colleagues at work hated it unless she put grapes and blueberries in it and I have another friend who hates it even though she does not have a sweet tooth.

Hi Maz2 - I am trying to eat less than 1,000 calories a day, and yoghurt as the highest calorie count of all my food items. I need to lose 5 stone. And even though yoghurt is my favourite food at the moment, it's not substantial enough to have as a meal on it's own, I was hoping that a Yoghurt would do for a lunch meal, but the Diabetes seems to demand more, which makes dieting harder. I new to diabetes and live on my own, so your contact is great, ideas and opinions are helpful, when you are newly diagnosed. Cheers clive55555

I can understand Clive that natural yoghurt on its own would not be enough for a man to eat. I tend to have it at breakfast or as a dessert (natural does not affect my BGs).

If you are trying less than 1000 calories a day - have you been told this is OK by your GP? I think at such a low level of calories, particularly for a male, you should perhaps put it past your GP. However, there are a couple of good books that you may already know about my Michael Moseley but, if not, here goes - The Blood Sugar Diet which contains recipes, and also Blood Sugar Diet recipes. These all add to 800 cals a day. He has also a written a book called The Fast Diet where you go low calorie a couple of days a week but eat normally the rest of the time. Tom Kerridge's Dopamine Diet book is good as it is low carb and also a book called "Reverse your Diabetes Diet" which is by Dr David Cavan is excellent as he was a Consultant Physician specialising in diabetes and now works in the EU on diabetes research. He is not suggesting that you can reverse it as such he just means keeping it under better control.

Hope this is helpful.

Not wishing to be an interfering busybody but 800 cals worries me a bit on a long -term basis but other more experienced members may come in and disagree with me.

Hello Maz2 You are right 1000 calories is a hard target. I never thought of mentioning it to a GP. But I have my first visit to the Hospital Diabetes Dietician coming up soon. I am using my FITBIT to track the calories, and it working. Found out I was drinking 3litres of water a day and night, cut back to 2litres. Thanks for the book ideas, it reminds me to check Carbohydrates as well as Calories, which is new to me. For decades I cooked in family hotel business, but Carbohydrates and Calories are bewildering and new to my cooking. At the moment I am struggling to understand Carbohydrates. But I need the harshness of !000 calories per day, I need to lose 5 stones. I done it before due to Heart Problems, but not with the difficulty of Diabetes. Talking of books have you read "TREASURY of UNDERGROUND REMEDIES" 167 Natural Breakthroughs by Racheal Linkie from Agora Health. Thanks for the contact Maz2 Cheers all the best Clive55555

I like Skyr, but of course being me I ate the whole tub. You sound very determined Clive, I could do with some of that resolve. 🙂

Hello Ditto. I am more desperate than determined, the Diabetes Ward in Hospital Scared the life into me. Cheers Clive55555. All the best

Ditto - know the feeling about Skyr. It is amazing what I can stop myself eating once I was told I was pre-diabetic.

Clive - have not heard of that book you mentioned. Will have a look at it if I see a copy.

Hello Maz2 Be careful when looking for that book, they have very persuasive techniques. Be careful if you listen to their presentation ( it could cost you) The Book is free ????? as long as you enrol for the magazine.
With being on Large dosage of Heart Medication and now Diabetes Medication, I'm looking for a natural sleep remedy that is gentle not to clash with the present course of medication. ( Without GP knowledge).
Never tried sleeping pills, but if I don't get some sleep soon, I am going to be in more trouble. Cheers Clive55555 YOU'AVE BEEN WARNED

If you do Atkins you sleep like a log! Well, I do. 🙂 No need for meds.

hello Ditto, Is Atkins the fried food diet? I sleep all the time, for about an hour at a time. Cheers Clive55555

hello Ditto, Is Atkins the fried food diet?
No. :D

If everybody ate Atkins from 1972 when Dr A rediscovered it there'd be far fewer Type 2's imho, including me!

You can fry if you like. You can also bake broil saute roast etc.,
