Hi

I’m Juliet and new to this I am type two on gliclazide and metformin. I have been unable to eat for three days and my blood sugar has rocketed. I am unsure why. Normally the tablets help me keep sugar levels down but even with being unable to eat and taking meds to bring it down it’s just not working. I feel very dizzy on standing up. any ideas?

First of all why haven't you eaten in 3 days? I thought Gliclazide was to be taken with a glass of water before meals? When you say rocketed what are your levels sitting at? if in doubt and are in the UK ring NHS 24 xx

Thank you for your reply. I have been unwell and not been able to eat. My sugar levels were around 5 before I lost my appetite but now sitting at 15 after no good got 3 days and that is still with medication. Hopefully I will feel better soon and resume eating.

I don't think you should be taking them without food? I thought it could cause hypo's so without the presence of food to work on I would assume it was dangerous xx

Hello @Juliet03 welcome to the forum .
The best thing for you to do is contact your out of hours service 111 for advise. I hope you feel much better soon

Your levels are probably higher in response to your illness. I agree with others - it would be worthwhile calling out of hours / 111 for advice.

In the meantime, make sure you are drinking plenty as anything above 10 the body tries to flush out of your system through urination.

Take care of yourself and definitely call 111 for advice. You will dizzy on standing if you have had no food for 3 days and taking medication. Please let us know how you get on.

Might be high because of being ill. Being unable to eat for several days is a reason to getting onto a doctor. Since you are on meds, especially so, sooner.
?I thought it could cause hypo's
My understanding is gliclazide can cause hypo's. Which makes it even more important to check with medical people. Even though you are getting high readings.
