Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi My diagnosis was one year ago. My G.P. told me basically to grit my teeth and get on with it after she had given me the diagnosis. If I am truthful I refused to believe that I was diabetic and for some month simply didn't acknowledge it. Eventually though I had to and I began to research the condition. I have had the necessary checks and I take Metformin. I have bought my own blood glucose monitor and I am finding that it is easier to keep to a lower carb diet with it. It has been a steep learning curve for me.

Welcome to the forum, you will find an informative and friendly group of people who will answer any of your questions and give lots of advice. Many people do find it a shock to get a diagnosis especially if they have not really had any symptoms but by taking action to modify lifestyle they can get things back on track.
Many people find that a low carb diet is very successful in reducing blood glucose levels so I am pleased that you have adopted that regime.
It will help people to tailor any suggestions if you can give a bit more information like what is your HbA1C and if you are trying to achieve weight loss. When you say low carb, what sort of carb amount are aiming at. An idea of your daily menu will help to see if there are any substitutions your could make.
Have a look at the Learning Zone as there is lots of information and please do ask any questions you have.
We often say every day is a school day when it comes to diabetes as it is a fickle condition.

Hello and welcome. I'm a newbie here with a recent diagnosis. Everyone is friendly so it is easy to join in or ask for advice etc.

Welcome to the forum @proudgran

Well done for the positive changes you have made, and for coming to terms with your diagnosis and beginning to take positive action.

And you are definitely right - diabetes is a very steep learning curve to begin with. Particularly as it is so individual, and you have to work out how your own particular diabetes responds to things. Glad you have a BG meter to help you do that 🙂

Let us know how you get on, and ask away with any questions you have. We have hundreds of years of lived diabetes experience on fhe forum which you can consult on any subject.
