Great to see you are recording your levels lilies 🙂

I wouldn't conclude anything just yet (though it is tempting to start immediately). Carry on collecting data and look for repeatable patterns. If you drop foods immediately you see a bad reading you might miss out if the high was caused by something else!

Don't forget to test before as well as after meals, I know it an extra strip but it will help you enormously to see how different foods affect you by comparing before and after. It won't be long before you will have an idea when your post-Neal peak most often occurs and then you can target you post-meal tests at about that time.

Diabetes Uk suggests something like 4-7 before meals and under 8.5 two hours after meals.

So you are mising the targets but have a baseline to work on.

Start by reading Alan S's blog on "Test, Review , Adjust", the watchwords of good control are "Test, test, test" and "Eat to your meter".

hi lillies

when i was 1st dx 6 weeks ago, i found my usual bran flakes abd banana breakfast was high, so i experimented with different cereals, they was all quite high, untill i knocked the banana on the head :(

now i have 2 weetabix with half water half milk and canderal

i am finding out aht potatoes are having a big effect too, last night i had 200gms of oven chips, 2 qourn sausages and 2 eggs (i'm on the slimming worl diet) within an hour i was so sleepy ...in the end i had to go to sleep!! woke up at 9.45 with blurry eyes, and still a little blurry today!!
pasta does it too...
its ahrd work trying to figure things out lol but we will get there, just takes time, and well done on being proactive

Bananas get me every time, they're chock full of sugar, which is heart breaking cos I love bananas. I only have them now when I'm hypo. I'm OK with things like oatmeal or Special K, but any other cereal sends me sky high. I often have home made yoghurt with berries for breakfast as I don't seem to have any problem with the berries and it satisfies my fresh fruit craving.

Nowadays I replace spuds with things like sweet potato, mixed carrot and swede or celeriac or have loads of veg (especially green veg) to fill out the plate. I eat very little bread, pasta or rice and have the brown/wholegrain/wild option instead of white when I do succumb. I'm lucky (sort of) there's a little bakery next door to my office which does a lovely wholegrain seedy loaf small enough for one and that usually lasts me the week, they'll slice it to my requirements as well.

In the early days I tested first thing and then before plus 1, 2 and 3 hours after meals and kept copious notes on what I ate, what exercise I did and what my BGs were. I soon learned what foods were OK for me and what not. We all differ in what affects our BGs and testing is the only way you'll learn what works for you so keep it up.
