Hello all

I have my first post pregnancy clinic appointment today. I am going to have to take Nathan along which is not going to be fun, particularly as he has turned into a feeding and pooing machine at the moment. I am not looking forward to breast feeding in the waiting room and he will not take a bottle at the moment. :(

I am intrigued what my hba1c will be. It was around 6.6 throughout my pregnancy. It will definitley have gone up, as I am no longer restricting what I eat so much or having extra shots at 6am to combat the dreaded Dawn phenomenon. I think it could be back to around 8.

I am REALLY hoping they will give me a date for getting my pump. If not I think I may be v upset. I missed my slot in august for the training as I was pregnant. I know there is a training session in march, fingers crossed I am on the list for it. By march it will be 2 years since I was approved for getting a pump.

Hi Rach good luck with the appointment today, i remember the phase of no bottle my son went through lasted all of a month and he was back on the bottle 🙄.Fingers crossed you get the date for the pump as well.I reckon your hbA will be 6.9% have faith x

Hi Rachella, I hope the appointment goes well.

As it is a clinic, ask if there is somewhere a bit more private you could feed Nathan if you need to. I'm sure they will be understanding about something so natural.

Hope it goes well Rachel, and that Nathan behaves! Hope they come good with the pump! 🙂

Thanks seffie. He has not taken a bottle since about 3 weeks old. We should have kept giving him one every now and then to keep him used to it, but didn't realise that. I would be over the moon with 6.9! Though a bit of me hopes it is high, as I am worried if it is still good they will not give me the pump.

Good luck for today Rachel hope all goes well for you

Kids and clinic's hehe

When my were little, I used to avoid if possible, but did fail on one occasionals with spetacular results with consultant.. Baby Muppet 7 months old, sletp right through the 2 1/2 wait I had... Woke up in one hell of a foul mood just as I went into the consultants room..

He was not impressed what so ever😱 Turse where said when he started to moan about delayed clinic time, my appointment was for 2pm not 4.30pm!!!

Good luck, if they don't mention the pump, ask them about it don't leave it.. If the mention about improved HbA1c, just say remember Nathan is only xxx old, and as he grows its going to be more difficult to keep up with him, and harder for a diabetic routine etc..

I never post because I don't really have any useful advice to give but regarding the bottle feeding I had the same issue. My daughter was breastfed for 8 months and hated all bottles. I don't think breastfed babies understand them ( the milk would just dribble out of the side ). I bought a bottle called breastflow from mothercare and It has been a miracle. It's designed for breastfed babies so uses the same mouth and toungue positioning. After months of screaming my daughter took it no problem. I could not recommend them more and only wish I had found out about them sooner. I know it's too late for your appt today. Hope it goes well x

i hope everything goes okie dokie and the lil one behaves himself 🙂
im sure your hb1ac will be fine, good luck!

Carriek, thanks for the post, unfortunately the breast flow bottles did not work with Nathan. I have just got an NUK teat from boots which was recommended. we will give it a shot after his op next week, I don't want to upset him before that is over and done with.

Hba1c was up to 8.3, not good, but I am not surprised.
I was worried about my feet as my heels have been v tingly and strange feeling, but they are fine thank goodness.

They have still not received confirmation of funding for anymore pumps, and that is why I have not heard anything. They are still waiting to hear how much/if there will be any money in this years budget, not good at all. I was not included in the January group which is going ahead, not sure why, but I did not see the point in making a fuss. With nathan's operation next week it would not have been good timing anyway.

I guess I have to be patient, and hope the funding is approved. I guess the older Nathan is, the more sleep I should be getting which might make the switch over a bit easier.

Good luck for the pump, I hope you get it and good luck for Nathans op.

I forgot to say, Nathan was a little star. No pooping, crying or feeding for 2 hours. He had big smiles for the nurses and then was asleep for the doctor bit.

🙂🙂

Nathan sounds a real sweetie and the nurses are the real brains with the day to day stuff.

Aww sorry to hear about the rise in hbA but you at least in your mind were expecting it, what a little star Nathan is not playing up give him a kiss from me lol .x Hope theres some good news soon regarding the pub.

That really sucks about the pump, I dont know what i will do if I have to wait that long. It's only been a month since the consultant agreed and I am starting to get frustrated already. Glad to hear Nathan was settled for your appointment.

i think most consultants expect a rise in hba1c after birth as its not the main priority anymore. my DSn said last week that my sugars will be the best theyve ever been duing pregnancy then higher after birth due to the stress and general coping after birth. (im ttc at present)

Sorry to hear about the A1c - but it's only to be expected with the chaos of caring for a newborn, & hopefully it will help speed up the process of getting a pump. Got my fingers crossed for you that you hear news soon.

Sounds like Nathan was an angel 🙂

Sorry I'm a bit behind and still trying to catch up on posts.

Hopefully your HbA1c will start to come down again and you also get your funding for a pump. Hope Nathan is ok - hope the op goes well (sorry I didn't know he was having one doh)

Best wishes
Di x
