As the title says I'm a bit confused by the test result. I was only diagnosed last week after two fasting glucose results of 7.6 and 7.1. My first Hb1AC has come back as 5.6% which seems very low for a diagnosis.

The nurse just said to me that i'm obviously controlling it very well and to carry on with what I'm doing! Seems strange as I haven't really changed anything yet what with only finding out I had diabetes last week. I have an appointment at the diabetic clinic next week so maybe things will become a bit clearer then!

Good news though, she gave me a prescription for a meter and test strips, although said I should only test once a day. The meter is Trueone with the meter on the lid of the test strips. It's tiny which is quite good. I've been looking around to see if I can find any reviews but there doesn't seem to be much info on it just yet. Ah well, I'll see how I get on with it 🙂

I'm not surprised that you'll confused by your results...

As the kinda don't quite make sense... but not impossible though

Perhaps you should ask for a OGTT so they can see what your response is to glucose!

As to your meter, I know paramedic now use this type of meter, it's basic meter and cheap, and lasts as long as the test strips it contains, so I would write down your results (most meter manufacturers do provided downloadable BG Diaries on their websites)

Your nurse's suggested test regime, is a bit iffy, as really you need to be testing, fasting levels, bedtime levels, and before and after meals to get a jest to what's going on..

So perhaps, do a couple meals, work out the carb amounts you are eating, then test before and 2 hours after...

But hopefully, you'll at a stage where if you have a think about your currant eating habits and if needs be changes some of them by choosing perhaps a more friendly item, or perhaps a smaller portion.. Then you moght be able to keep things at bay by diet alone.
