Hello all,

On of the forum members has kindly participated in our research study and posted their response in the following thread https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/board...researcher-new-to-the-site.84516/#post-946635.

It would be great to have some more participants from the forum as currently, we're running the study locally in both community pharmacies and our local hospital. As you can imagine, this doesn't make our recruits as diverse as they could be and we'd love to have people from all backgrounds and experiences with Type 2 Diabetes taking part from all over the country. If you think you'd be interested, or know someone who might be, then please contact me on:

joshua.wells@kingston.ac.uk

Participation takes roughly 10-15 minutes and those who take part will receive personalised results from our analysis, which provides information on their relationship with their Type 2 Diabetes and their medicines/lifestyle etc. So please get in touch, and once again thank you for supporting our project. (NB- This study has been approved by the local ethics committee and Diabetes UK for posting purposes).

Thanks,

Josh!

I'd have joined up - but we don't live in quite the same universe so the questions, though obviously in the same language I use, are asking about a state of being I don't inhabit.

Hi Josh do you have a link to the study, on-line questionnaire, you may get more of a response that way.

To each their own Drummer! Let me know if you ever change you're mind, or I can help with any questions 🙂

Hi Jodee,

Thank you for the suggestion. Sadly, the materials are protected through copyright and non-disclosure access agreements, therefore no materials can be posted online. However, the study is completed via an online survey, however this link is for a secure page which can't otherwise be accessed by others.

Perhaps I'll have a look at posting the information sheet online just to provide some additional clarity for the study. Thanks again!

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to say a massive thank you for everyone's contributions to this research from the forum. We've received lots of support and have recruited 25 participants so far! We're still hoping to recruit another 75 or so, please do get in touch or pass on the project details to those who might be interested. Just as a quick reminder for the study all we need is:

1) Confirmation of consent to participate
2) Some information about your diabetes medicines (I can also collect this information on your behalf from your GP with consent)
3) Completion of the online survey (Roughly 15 minutes to complete)

And don't forget you'll receive a £10 online gift voucher of your choice of online retailer, so far we've included: John Lewis, Amazin, Argos, Asda, Waterstones and quite a few others!

To participate, please email joshua.wells@kingston.ac.uk for next steps.

This study has been approved by the Diabetes UK Forum, however please feel free to let me know if you have any concerns or questions.

Thank you again!

I'm a T2D in remission. Diabetes controlled by LCHF and Time restricted eating only. I have never taken any Diabetes medicines.

SO I'm assuming that like for @Drummer you are not interested in my experiences.

Hi ianf0ster!

Sadly, you are correct. At this moment in time, we are only looking at those who use medicines for their Type 2 Diabetes. Very happy to hear that you've found a management plan that works for you though. Do you know of anyone who might be interested in our study?

We appreciate all the support we can get, especially given the situation with Covid-19.

Thanks for checking in!

Josh

Thanks, I just wish that there was a serious effort to put T2 D into remission instead of all the focus on short -term alleviation of the symptoms.

I can say from my experience working in research to date, there's a huge amount of work going on around this topic, however with all research things take time (which is sometimes for the best!). I think sadly due to Covid-19 there will be a hiatus of a great deal of research due to the constraints on those running, as well as those participating, in current projects which focus on people living with Type 2 Diabetes.

If I come across any good stories from the research world I'll try to share them! 🙂

There we were, innocently trying to help people avoid medication for the rest of their lives ..... if/when possible LOL We all have to accept that isn't always possible though and be realistic.

Totally agree! Managing Type 2 Diabetes with carbohydrate/sugar intake works for some but certainly not for everyone. I think it's important that future research continues to focus on all aspects of care for people living with Type 2 Diabetes. Hope you are well @trophywench 🙂

I am - just chomping at the bit for August the first!

Hi Josh,

Just wanted to say that I was happy to take part and thanks for the £10 voucher!

I know Josh needs more participants who are Type 2 on medications and it was an easy survey that took around 10mins of my time - so if anyone else fits the criteria I would say do take part.

Wishing you all the best with your study!

MissDaisy 🙂
