well we had Christmas, numerous birthdays (my own included) and the end of January saw my first diabetes check.

HbA1c reduced from 56 to 44
Weight loss 79kilos to 74kilos.
Medication 1 metformin daily.

So very proud of myself. It’s not been as hard as I thought it would be, cutting out sugar and treats has been easier because I knew that my body deserves better. I am no angel but once I started to say no to offers of biscuits, chocolates and cakes it got easier to keep saying no.
I only miss pastry! So a Greggs sausage roll on occasion is worth every bite.

Well done Sue, it all pays off in the end and you are certainly well on your way.

It was very upsetting in the beginning, but I am getting used to saying ‘no’ to things and asking for alternatives.
Weight loss and going down a dress size has been a bonus.
This website and the forums really have helped too. Because everyone knows what the ups and downs feel like. And so supportive. X

Congratulations on your progress.
Finding alternative low carb treats that I enjoy has really helped me, so that I don't feel deprived ie. a nice chunk of my favourite cheese or some brazil nuts or a pot of olives that I can dig into when others are having a sweet or high carb treat means I don't feel left out.

Triffic - well done!

Just from my experience, I'm a weight-loss enthusiast for knocking T2D on the head. So for me you're really on the right path and there's no particular reason why it will take a huge heroic effort to keep going along it, just some focus and mindfulness. Anyway, that was what it was like for me.

I'd just also add that it's likely enough you don't have to go all the way down to a (rather arbitrary) "normal" BMI to get your T2D under control. At least, that's what the outcomes of recent trials and studies show. A bunch of people get to "remission" by losing ~10kg (I'm one of them), more with ~15kg, some with just ~5kg.

Anyway, all the best and keep us posted on how you get on.

Hello Sue, and congratulations on your achievement. Success breads success, so I'm sure you are well motivated to continue and to keep saying 'no' when needed.
That certainly gets easier the more you do it, and I must admit to a slight feeling of smugness, particularly when I get past the 'Go on, one won't hurt' pushers.

When I come home from uni, my hubby has filled the fridge with things for me! He thought at first I was missing out on the treats but now he gets that I am happy without the sugar. I love that he too is looking for alternatives for me. He is no kitchen Adonis, bless him, but he really is doing his best to help me. X

I’m now imagining what a “kitchen Adonis” would look like and wondering if I could find one as a personal chef 🙂

Look up 'fat head' pizza - the 'dough' for that can be used as a cover for some really good sausages which knock most of the ones you can buy into the outfield.
So far I find there are few things which cannot be pushed into the region of lower carbs, and usually the result is far above the 'normal' version.

Hi Sue.
It sounds like you are coping well with cutting out sugars. I am struggling to find foods I can eat since diagnosis. Have you any foods you could recommend that help you through the first stage of diagnosis for newly diagnosed lady?
Many thanks.
Keep up the good work.

@Krafty sue this is amazing news and great results - your hard work was worth it! As @Drummer says there is a sausage roll recipe which looks quite good. With you on missing pastry...
