For some reason I’ve had troubles with my levels this week but today it’s starting to get slightly scary. Have increased my basal by 25% (8 units) in the last 24 hours, have needed to keep correcting during the day - 6 units so far, + ketones in my urine (0.7 on meter when BG was 9.0) and levels going back up again. Have done full set change and used insulin pen - have now also put on a 130% TBR but apart from a slight sore throat I can’t work out what is causing this. I haven’t left the house of 11 weeks and neither has my partner for nine weeks so I don’t think I can have picked up a virus.

Whatever the cause treat the symptoms. If you need it then call someone in the diabetes team for help. Anecdotally our diabetes team have said that people are getting ketones at lower levels than usual and needing more insulin to deal with the ketones with corona so it may be that you’ve picked it up off post or something that’s come into the house. But whether it’s that or something else keep an eye on the ketones and check in with the hospital if you think you need extra support. Hope you feel better.

Have a look at your previous posts AJ as you have posted about this problem before. I seem to remember you were given good advice then so have a delve and you will find your answer. Bottom line is either there's a problem with the vial of insulin (very rare) or you haven't got enough insulin for what ever is causing the problem.

Thank you very much everyone. Bear that Came to Tea - we’ve tried to quarantine all post but that is always a possibility. Sue thank you, Ive looked at my previous posts but this time it’s taking much more fire fighting than before. Looks like it will be a long night of testing and taking action. Thank you very much Lucy for the sick day rules which I’m following carefully.

Thank you Lucy. I will update in the morning x

Hope you feel better soon AJ! Sending hugs, as a side note I would like to mention PHE & WHO have advised that handling post etc doesn't put anyone at increased risk as they say its doesn't last long on things like letters and parcels, it is passing through different temperatures etc presumably making it more unstable, it could just be something else, you could even be developing hay fever or whatever, nonetheless I wish you a speedy recovery
xxxx

Thank you very much Kaylz xxxx

Very pleased to say that I'm now very happy that I'm at 3.8 - I know it's a hypo but only a mild one and far better than the fight I was having to get it down. Lots more testing to do over the next few days! Thank goodness for my Libre and pump 🙂

Thank you Lanny.
i did my last correction yesterday evening but I’ve now had four hypos since 3am it’s now nearly 8an - talk about going from one extreme to the other. I’ve still got the sore throat and unsurprisingly I’m shattered.

@AJLang oh no! Hope things level out and stabilise soon for you! xxxx

Thank you Kaylz xx
I’ve had 75g if quick acting carbs since 3am with no bolus, dropped my basal by 5 units (including suspending it for a while) and at 10am dropping back into the 4’s - obviously will have more liquid carbs if I need to but gastroparesis stomach is struggling. So tired.

Hello Amanda you`re going through a rough time at the moment, so sorry to hear this. Please contact your D team tomorrow and if need be the Dr too, your bound to be tired with every thing that is going on so rest when you can. Keep us updated please we do worry {{{HUGS}}} & xxx, take care.

Thank you very much Ted. Unfortunately my D team, although excellent in many ways, do not know how to manage my levels because of the gastroparesis. only Once in recent years have they made a change, the rest of the time I’ve had to do them.
Last year when I was losing weight every week for several weeks and with considerable reducing in insulin it took me seeing a surgery DSN, phoning the diabetes helpline, appointments with two other doctors and then seeing a third GP, who is excellent, before it was realised that I had a chest infection which needed antibiotics. The others mainly focused on it being good that I was losing weight even though I explained that it wasn’t intentional.
But if things Continue as badly as they have been I will phone the hospital diabetes line tomorrow. On the good news I’ve had a continual 6.5 for the last two hours 🙂 xxx

Sorry meant to say that I also feel a lot better (for me) after going back to bed and sleeping solidly for two hours xxx

I am glad that things have settled @AJLang
That first hypo after battling high levels always feels good.

I find it difficult to go with ‘you need what you’ at times when it creeped up and up.
However as you have found that is the first rule, then work out why.
If only these blips came with labels telling us why.

Thank you SB2015. I think it’s under control now but sleeping lots. I think that my guess is that it was some kind of a virus because I was fighting levels for a few days and then got suddenly worse.

Well I really don’t know what’s going on. BG unexpectedly went up to 10.5 two hours ago so I did a correction. Insulin had no effect and it’s now 13.6 with .6 ketones. Looks like it’s going to be another long night...
