Finally got an appointment

So after my appointment got cancelled for the 1st of august, I rang up this morning to be told again no appointment available for months so she told me the diabetes nurse was in and got her to ring me which she did, she said my levels did not concern her, she then looked at the bookings and said there was one available tomorrow 3.00 pm with her, she did say how did she not see this slot? so any how I finally have an appointment so will see how it goes tomorrow, wish me luck! 🙂
 
Why on earth was she not concerned with your readings??? Glad you got an appointment at last, let's hope she does something useful when you tell her the whole picture. Good luck!

To a point I now give up, I will tell her how I feel about the way I have been messed about and am quite frankly not happy with the way I have been treated, or more to the point not treated! 🙂

If you don't get anywhere tomorrow, put in writing to your GP that you are less than happy with your care! and that in an effort to save your limbs and sight you would like a consultation with a diabetes specialist and a fully qualified DSN, not the practice nurse.

Before you go tomorrow write down all questions you want answered, so you don't forget.

Agree with this. I also think your nurse should be concerned about your levels. Remember that YOU are the most important person in all this, and it is you that has to look after yourself 99.9% of the time, but you do need the right treatment and tools to enable you to look after yourself properly. Once again, I'm wondering if this is one of those people who has got so used to seeing high levels in people they don't even realise that good, possibly even excellent, control is achievable.

Good luck for tomorrow, hope they listen to what you say and take notice of your readings.

If you have a data cable for you meter and able to print off the reports, it would be worth doing, as they can see at a glance your levels are too high. Though take your meter as well. Some GP's may want to download your meters data for their records.

My GP has never once requested this or asked for my meter printouts, its only when I took a print out the nurse could see my readings were always high.
 
It's funny you say that pav, she said can I write it down from my meter as she cannot get on with them, I will write it down and show her the meter so she can see it is actually stored on there, my meter calculates 19,4 over a 90 day period, so I just hope she can see what is in front of her, I personally cannot take more meds it's getting to much, it is hard enough swallowing something that looks like you should be putting up your bottom ( metformin ) then ramipril and gliczaide and I have asthma....it is getting to the point that it is draining me now, my wife has even notice that I am getting ratty with the kids and her and I hate being like this, I am normally bubbly and happy but finding it hard to be positive, if she says I have to take one more tablet I will refuse!.....I just can't do it I already gag when swallowing all the tabs I have to take :(....will there ever be an end?....I just want good levels....:(

For me sue I am not good at confrontation, and sorter go with what I am told, but just had a heart to heart with my misses and enough is enough.....I will have my say 🙂
 
Your back to the question I asked a while ago, I am upto 10 different tablets a day, plus creams and drops, then add in any additional ones they throw at me. Some of the tablets aren't the best tasting things out, I can't swallow tablets on their own I have to have them with food.

The question I asked on here, would it be better to have one of the injectables to control my peaks rather than throwing more tablets at the diabetes. Though after hearing about some of them from the TV program the other week not sure whats best. Probably ask the docs at the next review time.

no need for confrontation 🙂 just take in your results and say you are not happy with them or your future prospects as they are so high, so can you (nurse) shed any light on the matter or suggest anything else to try.
If not satisfied ask GP for a referral.

Yep your right.....i am one of those type or fellers i just say yes yes.....then walk out and think im not happy, but tmr i will have to speak my mind as this cannot go on......many thanks everyone for your support 🙂
 
This might be a daft question, is your appointment with a specialist DN?

I see a screening nurse (who happens to know a fair bit about diabetes), who says shes not a specialist nurse, but without her help I could still be up the creek without a paddle. If you can get the nurse on your side she could well help sorting out any problems with the doctors.

Well well well - a 'Diabetes nurse' who 'Just can't get on with meters'.

WTF (excuse my language, it seems appropriate though) is she doing being a 'Diabetes nurse' in the first place, that being the case?

We already knew she knows nob all about diabetes from the fact she doesn't think your readings of concern.

Well we flippin well think they are, and 99% of us are far better qualified than she is to advise you!

"I have been taking advice from some real diabetes experts. Most of them are not medically qualified but between them they have hundreds - if not thousands - of years experience of dealing with the condition. They say my figures ARE of concern and I believe them. Now, what are you going to do about it? Because you definitely need to do something. I suggest you refer me to the XYZ hospital diabetes clinic, so that I can get proper, expert advice. In any event, I definitely want a second opinion because I'm not at all happy at the moment.'

(eg If you just take me and Pumper Sue, and nobody else - that's well over 80 years for starters.)

I completely agree, without the knowledge and help from everyone on this site I would really be in the dark, maybe some of these so call diabetes nurses should read these forums,
