Eldest has just brought round a bag of ripe figs from his tree......more to come. Does anyone have any suggestionswhat to do with them.. apart from eating them???? Love figs but stayed away as they are not carb friendly , I suppose I could just eat them and include them iny count.

I also have a 'glut' of figs but have added 1 chopped to my breakfast yoghurt, I have had one with parma ham and feta cheese for lunch, I am going to freeze some to make some fig compote. I have a fruit dryer so have dried some which should keep for later.

Coincidentally i bought one at the WI market last week. Someone had bought a few from their tree. Prediabetes I had occasionally bought a purple one from the greengrocer and had with cheese. These ones were mainly green but I was told they were ripe. I enjoyed the one I had.

Hope you can find a way to enjoy them that doesn’t upset your levels unduly @EMcKT

Some sort of preserving might allow you to spread them over a longer period?

Figs with Parma/ Serrano ham is also a thing. Basically any way of incorporating them into a meal with fat and protein. My mum has a fig tree and I've found they're not good for my BG if I eat them on their own.

My mum's remain green. I expect it's just different varieties are different colours, like apples.

Must be possible, after all I grew up with Syrup of Figs as the family's stock laxative :D

I've been tempted today. Went to WI market and there were loads of figs, this time purple. I bought 2 they were 40p each.
Last week on catch up on itv I watched the first episode of Tom Kerridge in Spain. I noticed the next episode ( live last Friday)was called oranges and figs. It's filmed in Valencia which is a lovely city.

BTW the fig lady says she is going to make chutney.

Well I'd do my best Sean Connery impression: "Green figs; yogurt; coffee - very black".

Impossibly exotic as a breakfast order in 1963!

We have two small fig trees. This year we got our first figs. Only 4 of them. Shared one with hubby on its own. The others went into a mixed salad with ham. Very nice but I wouldn't eat a lot of them. Tried a friend's fig chutney but it was too sweet for my taste. If I get enough next year I will try drying them.

If it keeps being as hot in Scotland as it's been today, I'll be growing coconut palms next year 😎

Lots of coincidences! I was based in Newbury for my 'Child' placement when I did my Clinical Psychology training in Oxford in the late 1980s: I remember riding my motorbike down the A34 from Oxford to Newbury the day after the 1987 Hurricane 😱.

I love Pitlochry: the Green Park Hotel there is one of my favourite hotels anywhere in the world :star:

Ohhhhh, thats where they are just now. !!!!!!!! We love it, brother in law had a stroke and is wheelchair bound. It's so nice there, staff are wonderful and room 61 is just perfect for him. We try to go twice each year to be with them, it's a bit of a drive from Wokingham and I got all the dates muddled this time, so we have missed out. Went up in April.for.his 90th. Sister says it's glorious just now and the hotel is busy. Nice to find someone who knows the hotel
