Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Diagnosed just over a year ago with it, diabetes 2. A shocking surprise, despite being very overweight. Im 50. I have worked hard with diet, lost a lot of weight, and metformin has been reduced by half. I have used glucose monitor, ino, and ino x from amazon, but I'm confused, as the results are quite different. Should I use a different machine?

Welcome @Ejuicey What do you mean by “different”? Do you mean different to your HbA1C from the GP surgery?

My surgery says I'm doing very well, weight going down, and blood scores made them reduce my metformin to very low. What I mean is, I bought glucose monitors, and I've often used them both at the same time, but with differing scores. I've an ino machine, and an inox machine. Using same test strips, and same finger prick, they give different results.

That’s perfectly normal - unless there’s a massive difference between them. All glucose meters have a margin of error, and you could test three times in a row with the same meter and get different results. I have two different brands of meter and one consistently reads a little lower than the other.

Do you know of the best machine? I've only tried ino, and ino x. I'm diabetes 2 and still learning. The machines helped me understand levels after sleep, before meals, and a while after, they helped me choose certain foods

If you can recommend a machine, that works like the ino, I will buy it immediately.

The thing to watch is the cost of the test strips. I’m Type 1 and have an AccuChek meter but I get my test strips prescribed so free.

The two meters generally recommended for Type 2s here are the Caresens Gluco Navii and the Spirit Tee 2. That’s because they’re a good balance of accurate and cheaper strips.

im prescribed the tee2+ and strips and is about the same as my accucheck meter that I bought before docs started supplying mine.

I cannot get prescribed. So I bought the ino. I get 50 strips and 50 lancets for about 12 quid. I'm more concerned about what people think accuracy than cost. But I'm going to look up the machines you all use. Thank you so much

All monitors have to conform to minimum standards so unless the monitor is faulty or you are using out of date strips or have a bad batch there is no reason to suppose either of your monitors are not fit for purpose and certainly if you are looking for trends rather than decimal point accuracy they should be good enough.
What differences are you seeing.

oh let us teach you the ways of never changing your lancets (well maybe once a year) :D
Come on... I change mine every 6 months.. (if I remember)..

4.6 on one, 5 on another.

Those are close enough to meet the accuracy guidelines for the same actual blood glucose. (And both good readings!)

I understand what you mean about trends, that's what helps me with diet etc. I just assumed a machine would be accurate, it worried me about differing results on the same finger prick. Thank you.
