hi I have quite bad numbness in my feet and toes, I also get a lot of pain in them anyone have any tips to ease this a bit ... thank u

Hi Lisa, have you discussed this with your doctor? What are your levels like at the moment? When my blood sugar levels are high I do sometimes get pain in my toes, especially at night - is there any particular time of day or night when you have the problems? Getting steady blood sugar levels is the best thing you can do, but of course that's far easier said than done! 🙄

Remind me Lisa, what medication are you on? If your levels are that high all the time then it clearly isn't working for you :(

I know that but no one listens I take 50 long acting insulin and fast acting before each meal between 5 and ten depending on wat I'm eating

Sounds like you need more :( Have you tried doing a basal test, where you miss meals at different parts of the day in order to see what happens to your levels when you are just relying on your long-acting insulin? This is often the key to getting better control, because if your 'background' levels are better, it's easier to get things right for your fast-acting at meals. This article explains it in detail - it's written for insulin pump users, but the same principles apply when you are on injections.

Do try it, and ask your nurse about doing this sort of testing if you are not sure how to go about it 🙂 And remember, we are here to help with any questions you might have about getting better control 🙂

I hope they are able to help Lisa, let us know how you get on 🙂 Don't let them fob you off - you need to get your insulin doses sorted out, there's no reason for your levels to be so high all the time, so make sure you come away with a plan to reduce them! 🙂

Yes I've actually got an appointment to see doctor ! And I will try sort something (-:
If need be, be insistent.
I hope they are able to help.

Good luck with your appointment Lisa, hope they finally listen to you and do something about it!! x

What did they say about your insulin doses as previously mentioned the high levels you are experiencing wont be helping with the problems with your feet and it may get better if you get your levels down in more 'normal' ranges x

Nope never been on one, I just use the back of packs, the carbs and cals book etc, heard they can be really good but I cant find any information for any courses near me, quite a few of the others have been on them though 🙂 x

Not a great deal really going to go on a carbs course , have u been on it Kaylz? X
Well, that's at least something Lisa. Most people find these courses very helpful, do you know what the course is called? I'm really surprised you haven't been on one already, hope you don't have to wait too long for it 🙂

I use the carbs and cal book to so know sat I'm doing but they've said if I go on this then next step mayb a pump don't really know wat my thoughts are on this tho ? X

Ah right ok, at the moment I wouldn't be interested in a pump as I think I am doing well on MDI plus I don't like the idea of being attached to something all the time really, is it something you've ever thought about? I'd wait and see if the carb counting course can help you any more with keeping your levels steady and in range with injections, if not maybe then consider a pump, users do say once they are fine tuned to suit you they are really good, but quite hard work to begin with, if it is something you are considering then take a look at the pumping section and have a good read to see the pros and cons, I just know its not an option I'd be interested in at the moment xx
