Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I am new to this forum. Can someone please advise what to do. I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic in February , I am on Metformin , I have had my rental screening and have been on the Desmonds course which my diabetic nurse referred me to. But as yet have not had my feet checked out properly even though my diabetic nurse as sent a referral twice to the appropriate department as I have a dodgy big toe nail. What should I do next please?

Hi kevin...I'm surprised your Diabetic nurse didn't check your feet...unless your diabetes care is being 'managed' by your local hospital...I waited about seven months to have my feet checked by the DSN at my GP's practice...however...with the 'dodgy' toe nail I wouldn't wait for the referral...have you mentioned your toe nail to your DSN/GP yet...ring your surgery...ask for an urgent appointment first thing on Monday...it may be something or nothing...but it needs to be checked as soon as possible...we need to be pro-active with our foot care...good luck...keep us updated.

Thanks for your reply. My diabetic nurse checked my feet when I was first diagnosed. It was her who noticed my nail. I explained to her that I had been to my G.P. with it. He had me send nail clippings from the nail to the path lab, which came back negative. She still sent off two referral letters. Which I have still not had any further appointments. Perhaps I should go see my G.P. again?. Thanks once again.

How 'dodgy' is the foot Kevin?...do they think it might be an infection...there are quite a few here who have had foot problems related to their diabetes (I have been lucky in that respect so far)...likely they are in a much better position to direct you...a bit quiet here...its Sunday...once the forum 'wakes up' I'm sure they will be along with good advice/suggestions...however...I see nothing wrong with speaking to your surgery if it is troubling you...getting worse...or at least no better...good luck.

My local nhs cut chiropdy down, stopped regular check ups and are now closing clinics :(

Chase up for your chiropdy checkup, is so easy to ignore foot problems till its too late
