Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
hi guys
It’s been some time since I’ve posted on here and was in good control however just lately my average blood sugar has been around 14 to 18, i was hba1c was 42 but now it’s 72 and the doctor wants to see me Wednesday and I’m sure he’ll put me on medication! However the past 4 days I’ve had a feeling that my food is stuck or not digesting and having acid, it’s feels like it’s stuck! To be honest I’m really scared of what it may be! Could this be related to my diabetes?
Thanks for reading

I’m sure he’ll put you on medication too. Don’t regard that as a failure on your part, it’s just the way Diabetes plays out in some people. It may not be permanent, though, so don’t worry.

With regard to your other symptoms, there are a few things that could cause that type of symptom, so rather than speculate, let’s see what the doc says on Wednesday. A gastroscopy beckons, I think. Don’t worry about that, either - just ask for sedation like I do. It’s probably not related to diabetes.

Although only diagnosed 14 months ago my hba1c was slowly coming down then at the last test it had gone back up to almost the level of diagnosis I admit I had slipped with my diet. I was prescribed extra medication but as MikeyB says it does not mean it is permanent. Re the feeling of food being stuck I can understand your fear, but at least you are seeing a doctor quickly and insist they send you for tests and don't dismiss your fears.

Please keep us updated as whatever the outcome we will be here to support you all the way. There are many of us dealing with other illnesses or conditions as well as diabetes.

Thanks for the reply guys
Been to doctors and they gave me lansoprazole for my stomach and it’s worked wonders and today he’s started me on Metformin one tablet a day because my liver is slightly raised
Hope it works as I feel like c**p most days

Cheers guys x

Pleased to hear that your stomach issues is responding to the meds prescribed. Re the Metformin, some people do suffer some of the digestive side effects from this medication, mine has been intermittent. Hope the Meformin works for you.

Mark as @Grannylorraine says the Metformin may give you digestion problems...quite a few of us here have experienced that...it's not unusual... however in many cases it does settle down reasonably quickly...mine was fine after a couple of weeks...I presume your GP has given you the standard Metformin...if you do experience any 'tummy trouble' for an extended period...you can ask your GP for the extended release Metformin...many say it's gentler on the system...good to hear the stomach problems are resolving with the medication...hopefully with the Metformin & Lansoprazole you'll be able to concentrate on managing your diabetes now... reducing those BG levels...the Metformin will help make your liver less sensitive lowering the amount of sugar it releases...you've had great control previously...you can get that back...it is hard work...but worth it...look forward to hearing your progress...good luck.
